POSTS STORIES REELS

There’s something powerful about knowing where our food comes from.

Not just geographically, but emotionally. Understanding the people, ecosystems, and stories behind what ends up on our plates can change the way we see the world around us.

In Episode 2 of Savoured Here, seaweed harvester and educator Amanda Swinimer reflects on our relationship with food, nature, and the sense of wonder that can emerge when we slow down and look a little closer.

🎬 Savoured Here premieres this fall.

Welcome to Savoured Here.

A six-part documentary series exploring the people, places, and food cultures that make Southern Vancouver Island so special.

Over the past year, we’ve travelled across farms, forests, coastlines, vineyards, kitchens, and communities to document the stories behind the ingredients, traditions, and relationships that shape this region.

From chefs and farmers to fishers, foragers, Indigenous knowledge keepers, and producers, these are the people helping define Vancouver Island’s culinary identity.

🎬 Official trailer out now (link in bio)
📺 Premiering September 22 on TELUS Optik TV & TELUS Stream+

“Cooking out here is different. It’s about connection – to the land, the sea, and the people around the fire.”

What a night at L’Abattoir 🍽️

We celebrated Episode 2 “Forage, Land & Sea”featuring Robin Jackson from @westcoast_mycology and Amanda Swinimer @dakinitidalwilds, with an intimate Pacific Northwest feast built around everything that episode is about.

Executive Chef Jasper Cruickshank @mrcookit and our very own Savoured Here host, Colton Armstrong-Ashley @colton.aa, teamed up with Bar Manager Alexa Gervais @alexagervais for a tasting menu showcasing the region’s land and sea, paired with cocktails that told the same story.

This is exactly why we made this series. Not just to document the people behind Vancouver Island’s food culture, but to keep creating moments where that culture gets celebrated in person, around a table, with the people who live it.

Thank you to everyone who came out, and to @labattoir_van, @empress1908gin, and @maisonperrierca for helping bring the evening together.

Brewery & the Beast Vancouver Island is almost here, and we’re serving our coast. 🌊🐙

This Sunday, September 27, find us at Starlight Stadium alongside 50+ chefs and restaurants for one of Vancouver Island’s biggest food events of the year. This is our last stop on the Brewery and The Beast tour and we’re proud to wrap up at home.

Chef @colton.aa will be serving wild Pacific octopus from @FinestAtSea, glazed with charred carrot BBQ and grilled over cedar with carrot top & sea-foraged gremolata.

We’ll save you a bite.
