Took a nice little break from social for a bit. I'm going to continue to use this as a photo book/journal of sorts, and not much else. Going to be deleting meme pages and all that extra b.s. as I see them populate in this artificial world of doom and rage bait....

Here's what I'll say. I don't think humans are supposed to be plugged into everything going on in the world all the time. It's important to care about things and be informed but in a modern world where information is almost instant from every corner of the globe, it's just too much. Show up when it counts, and focus on the things and people you love. For me that's been my close friends and family and the weird little world we've built together.

Truth is it's been a tough go for a bit. A growth on Jolene's leg was shown to be cancerous and when a doctor asked if we were interested in "sparing the leg" I was shocked that that was even within question. My mind raced with the very real possibilities of what cancer could mean. A week later we had her to a specialist. Lungs clear, tumor low grade, good news was incredibly welcome, then we were in surgery. Since then she's been high-maintenance, attached to a machine, confined, confused, completely dependent on me for every living function of her life, testing my patience and elevating my cortisol about to the brink....

We just came out the other side and she is cancer free and on the mend, but getting to this point has been incredibly stressful. She's my little soul animal and for a while there I was a nervous wreck. Thanks to @lex_aaaa for helping me in so many ways. Telling me it will be ok. Telling me my mood is shit. Giving me the reality check I needed to realize I needed to take a step back from the problems of the world and focus on the things at hand and what I have control over. For being patient with me...

I've struggled with debilitating migraines to some extent my whole life but the last 7 years in particular have been pretty brutal. The real kicker is that they a by @coltshreds

A couple weeks ago @lex_aaaa finally revealed her surprise gift to me for my birthday.

A photoshoot in the desert with Jolene.

Lex has always been an incredible gift-giver. They are always things I'd never consider buying for myself but I'm always in love with, and not sure how I lived so long without them. Lately, the best gifts have revolved around Jolene. My little soul animal.

Jolene is 8 and we've got time, but damn if I'm not grateful to have these forever.

@abbihearne you nailed these. Thank you for helping to immortalize Jolene for me. It means the world.

Lex, you did it again. I love you so much. Thank you for this amazing gift.

Summer so far! Not quite what I had planned but hey...I went a long time hucking my meat without needing surgery. Was bound to happen sometime. Time for rehab.
