Columbia University has officially ushered in an era of fascism because it refused to stop investing in genocide. When you dehumanize Palestinians facing forced displacement and murder in Palestine, you automatically dehumanize Palestinian students in the U.S. to the point of initiating a deportation campaign. We have had enough—this will not stand. by @columbia.psc

ICYMI: Maryam Alwan is suing Columbia University for anti-Palestinian discrimination.

Alwan is one of five plaintiffs in a lawsuit against Columbia alleging discrimination against Palestinian students and staff. In issue 12 of The Key, she wrote about what the headlines missed after the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, including uninvestigated doxxing campaigns and biased disciplinary hearings for pro-Palestine activism.

The people punishing students for opposing genocide are the same people enabling sexual predators. by @columbia.psc

It was one day before this one in 2003 that we lost one of the greatest Palestinian intellectuals of our time.

What strikes me most about Edward Said’s work is how relatable his experience and his work are. While he was a literary critic and his texts require effort and focus, his experience is incredibly relatable and accessible.

Born in Jerusalem and displaced just before the Nakba, Said relocated to Egypt before eventually moving to the United States, where he attended Princeton and Harvard University. He went on to teach at Columbia University.

My own foundational literary courses taught Edward Said’s Orientalism, and my professors often quoted his work as foundational to postcolonial theory.

Yet, ironically, his Palestinian advocacy is so often left out of that discussion. And since the genocide, Columbia’s own handling of the encampments and student protests has made that omission feel even more striking. Yet another clear indicator of Palestinian exceptionalism.

Either way, here are just a few foundational texts to read by Edward Said.

Two SWC members are among the plaintiffs in a new lawsuit against Columbia University, challenging the University’s unlawful repression of pro-Palestine activism and demanding accountability for its actions.

Student activists deserve the freedom to dissent without violent retaliation. We stand in solidarity with the plaintiffs and all students fighting to defend their right to protest! by @columbia.psc

Over the past 24 hours, so many people have reached out asking how they can support us in our lawsuit against Columbia.

For years, we have organized for Palestine and refused to be silent in the face of genocide, repression, and attacks on Palestinian students and their allies.

Now, we’re taking that fight to court.

If you believe students should be able to stand up for a free Palestine without fear of retaliation, support our legal fund at the link in our bio. 🇵🇸 by @columbia.psc
