The keys to the new place came with a ticking clock the size of a stadium.It had been nearly two years since shovels first went into the ground in the Arena District, the first step in building the new home of the Clippers. Huntington Park had risen from the dirt and parking lots located west of Nationwide Arena and just south of Promowest Pavilion, but it wasn’t done yet.The date was March 1, 2009. The first home game loomed 49 days ahead on the calendar, an April 18 date against the Toledo Mud Hens. And for the employees moving into their new home, any trips that involved moving through the stadium outside the safety of their new offices required mandatory hard hats as construction crews worked to finish things on time.Read more. McCoy Park could soon be the site of state-of-the-art, heated soccer fields and a two-story, 45,000 square-foot training facility for Columbus' newest professional sports team.The Haslam Sports Group shared its plans for a National Women's Soccer League team training facility with The Dispatch ahead of its request to the Columbus Southwest Area Commission to endorse the group's rezoning application.
