Thursday, October 8 at 5:30 pm the Illges Gallery invites you to join us for the reception of About America/ Liberty, Legacy, and Loyalty at 250.
Curated by Cynthia Nourse Thompson
Poignant— and timely in response to continuing shared realities and profound global struggles— About America: Liberty, Legacy, and Loyalty at 250 contemplates the complex and often subtle relationship between the past and present, prosperity and adversity, presence and absence, civility and disregard. Utilizing seemingly simplistic imagery and a sparse color palette as visual platforms, the contemporary artists featured in this exhibition consider and question the meaning of and iconography
associated with American Nationhood. Through these diverse artistic examinations, the exhibition slowly reveals how awareness and misconception can both abstract and define visual narratives, prompting viewers to [re]consider how we remember our histories, comprehend our current world, and define our futures. With great sadness, we say goodbye to Yun Praught Nye class of 2019, a former student of the CSU Department of Art, who left this world far too soon.

Yun was a joy to know. She was full of spirit, kindness, and warmth. She was a wonderful student and a remarkable talent whose creativity, generosity, and presence touched those around her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, teachers, classmates, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She left us far too soon, but her spirit, kindness, and creative light remain with us. by @bobartlettcenter
