Thursday, October 8 at 5:30 pm the Illges Gallery invites you to join us for the reception of About America/ Liberty, Legacy, and Loyalty at 250.
Curated by Cynthia Nourse Thompson
Poignant— and timely in response to continuing shared realities and profound global struggles— About America: Liberty, Legacy, and Loyalty at 250 contemplates the complex and often subtle relationship between the past and present, prosperity and adversity, presence and absence, civility and disregard. Utilizing seemingly simplistic imagery and a sparse color palette as visual platforms, the contemporary artists featured in this exhibition consider and question the meaning of and iconography
associated with American Nationhood. Through these diverse artistic examinations, the exhibition slowly reveals how awareness and misconception can both abstract and define visual narratives, prompting viewers to [re]consider how we remember our histories, comprehend our current world, and define our futures.
