To go or not to go?

I haven’t made my mind up about Art Basel Miami/Miami Art Week this year yet and I’m torn!

On the one hand I’m super busy and it’s hard to get away, on the other, it’s such an art- and fun-packed week in the sun. And a dose of truly tropical heat would be so welcome.

I’ve booked hotels just in case! 👌

Do you have any ripped and weathered old posters that you can’t let go of? Get them framed! I go to Michael’s during the 70% framing days—they do such a great job.

Didn’t this one turn out cool? It floats on a white matte and the white frame looks lacquered, accenting the text. Totally breathed new life into this battered gem.

The Ever-Changing Delight dessert at Mustard’s Grill lived up to its reputation for a birthday dinner this week. The cake was lip-smackingly moist, the blueberry compote a delight.

🍷 New travel story! And this one gave me a whole new way of looking at Napa Valley.

Yes, the wine is excellent. Obviously. But Napa Valley is also farmland, wild spaces, independent family-run wineries, small producers, regenerative agriculture, sheep in vineyards, — and a 165-year-old agricultural experiment facing some very real pressure.

For my latest for @fwtmagazine , “Napa at the Crossroads: Drinking in a Valley Worth Saving,” I went looking for the Napa beyond the polished tasting rooms.

I found it at places like Tres Sabores, where you can sip Cabernet 300 feet from the vines that grew it, and in the work of Napa Green, which is helping wineries rethink everything from soil health and water use to farmworker safety and climate resilience.

The best takeaway from the trip?

Slow down. Get off Highway 29. Seek out the small places. Ask how the grapes are farmed. And remember that every bottle is also a vote for what kind of Napa survives.
