Introducing Lee Maelzer @leemaelzer the second of our artists showing work at Come Quick Disaster Crit 13. this Sunday - 13th September 3-5pm @chisenhalestudios
Education Space.

Lee Maelzer is a London based artist whose paintings explore the poetic potential of used objects, redundant sites and the significance of matter and place. Her work occupies the space between image and landscape, painted and printed surface, often transforming the everyday into something atmospheric, melancholic and quietly uncanny.

Maelzer studied at Central Saint Martins and the Royal College of Art. She has exhibited widely in the UK and internationally, with six appearances in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and has twice been shortlisted for the John Moores Painting Prize. She was awarded the Bryan Robertson Trust Award in 2019 and the Abbey Fellowship at the British School at Rome in 2004.

Her work is held in private and public collections internationally including the BSR Fine Arts Collection, David Roberts Collection, Queen Mary University of London and the University of the Arts Collection.

Maelzer is also a Senior Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of East London and has lectured at institutions including Central Saint Martins, the Royal Academy Schools and City & Guilds of London Art School.

Introducing Jenny Lewis @_jennylewis_ the first of our artists showing work at Come Quick Disaster Crit 13. On 13th September, 2026 3-5pm @chisenhalestudios, Education Space.

In recent years, Jenny has turned to unseen and underrepresented aspects of women’s lives, from birth to menopause. UnBecoming (2024) documents and conceptualises her experience living with a chronic invisible illness while simultaneously navigating the unknown territory of menopause. Her newest project, Autoimmune x Autophoto (2026), extends this inquiry, gathering voices that share a crip perspective.

Her work has been exhibited widely across the UK and internationally, including at the National Portrait Gallery, Pallant House Gallery & Walker Gallery, Liverpool. Her work is also held in many of their collections. Lewis has been selected for the Taylor Wessing Photographic Portrait Prize at the National Portrait Gallery three times; 2019, 2021 and 2023.
Jenny’s artwork is the subject of books such as One Hundred Years. London: published by Hoxton Mini Press in 2021. “This intimate collection of portraits and stories of Hackney residents at every age from birth to 100 reveals not just a neighbourhood, but the deep sorrows, fierce joys and many contradictions that all our lives contain.”

Chisenhale Studios is pleased to partner with Come Quick Disaster, an artist-led platform founded in 2018 by artists Henrietta Armstrong and Kirsty Harrris. Established to create opportunities for dialogue, exchange and collaboration, the platform brings together artists at all stages of their careers through critiques, artist talks and curated exhibitions.

Over the years, Come Quick Disaster has built an engaged community of artists, curators and people with an interest in contemporary art from across London and beyond. Drawing on more than two decades of working within London's art scene, Henrietta and Kirsty have developed a broad network of artists, enabling conversations between emerging practitioners and more

At the heart of Come Quick Disaster is a commitment to making critical discussion accessible and welcoming. Events are free to attend and open to everyone, whether they are practising artists, students or simply interested in engaging with contemporary art. The aim is to create an environment where ideas can be tested, practices developed and lasting connections formed across the artistic community.

Keep an eye on our what’s on page and come quick disaster socials for upcoming announcements!

Henrietta Armstrong

Henrietta Armstrong is a London based multimedia artist and sculptor, whose practice explores relics, ritual and the apotropaic power of objects. Working across sculpture, installation and public art, she engages with devotional forms, personal talismans and systems of belief embedded in everyday material culture.
Her work draws on religious iconography, obsolete technologies and constructed infrastructures to examine how meaning is assigned to objects over time. Recurring themes include protection, inheritance and the tension between the sacred and the forbidden.
Through repetition, material transformation and scale, Armstrong’s sculptures become acts of ritual in themselves, holding space for reflection on faith, power and the emotional life of objects.

Henrietta Armstrong MRSS (b. 1981, Devon), studied BA Fine Art (Hons) at Sir John Cass School of Art, Londo by @comequickdisaster

I am so excited to invite you to my first major group exhibition in NEW YORK, NEW YORK!

𝐢 𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐭
A multi-disciplinary Visual Art exhibition at
Westbeth Gallery @westbethgallery,
55 Bethune St, New York, NY 10014

Opening 4 September 6-8 pm
4-27 September 2025, Wed-Sun 1-6pm

@markfb_studio @jodigerbi @oliviagossettcooper @kirsty_harris_art @jess_parnell_arty @perditasinclair

Bringing together UK and US artists at this time of global unrest and uncertainty.
i Manifest interrogates the concept of manifestation on many levels, focusing on multiple dualities which exist on a continuum of nothing-to-something; real-to-fake; physical-to-AI; sub-conscious-to-conscious; sticky floor-to-glass ceiling. To reflect this blurring of perceptions & boundaries, many of the works contain dream-like qualities reminiscent of a kind of ‘new surrealism’.
This exhibition plays with the ‘existential’ hanging in the air. One American writer of Mark Fraser-Betts’ acquaintance asserted that the universe is currently undergoing a cosmic cycle that is beyond our comprehension. So, in reflecting the incomprehensible, what collective identity can the artists in this show share?
Despite, or maybe because of the challenges of this shifting landscape, all of the artists in this show strive to maintain the authenticity of their artistic endeavours while remaining playful and inquisitive.

***I would really appreciate you inviting your artists, friends and family who live in NY, so please be generous and share far and wide! I will be in NY for the opening and would love to meet them❤️***

Thank you to Mark and Perdita for all their work organising this exhibition. I can’t wait to meet the amazing artists and see their work.
