Incoming transmission: Our love is infinite, but our time is finite. We came in peace, but The Comet is Coming will soon be returning to near earth orbit to allow Betamax, Danalogue and Shabaka to concentrate on other pathways of artistic exploration. We will return when the stars align and the planet needs us. RETROSPECTIVE Ten years ago we released our first LP entitled Channel The Spirits. We had no idea at the time where this would take us, as we documented the inception of our newfound synergy, sound waves billowing out of our collective imagination straight to tape right from the first moment. We celebrate this milestone by bringing together all of our music from that period, including the Prophecy & Death To The Planet EPs, with additional tracks never heard before - both from the studio and for the first time, live performances. While searching back through the archives, we discovered an unreleased gem, aptly titled 'Late Night Party Jam 2'. Guests had been invited into the studio to dance and play percussion while we jammed into the night, elevated by the collective experience. This is our first offering from Exploding In Slow Motion: The Complete Channel The Spirits Recordings 2013-2017CE, released November 20 on The Leaf Label. Available on polychromatic ‘Ring Nebula’ limited edition 3LP (Bandcamp & Rough Trade exclusive), coloured vinyl 3LP, 2CD and Bandcamp exclusive double cassette. Pre-order link in bio. Bomba alert ! New track ‘Brothers Boutique’ from my fourth coming debut solo album ‘Fluff’ coming out on the dope ass label @byrdout - I made this album knocking around in the back of a splitter van. 🚐 this track bottles that chaotic momentum. Making music away from the drums has been liberating and challenging and me and my sampler have become quite intimate over the last couple years. However we actually have a history predating my relationship with drums, as I was a keen sample head from age 13. In fact this is how I arrived at drums - sampling percussion sounds, but that’s a whole other story. Composition sometimes felt slow to me and I spent many years favouring improvisation as a channel for my musical energies - however sampling has opened up the mysterious well of machine trance - time becomes refracted into structure. Worlds are born out of recycled moments - the medicine reveals itself in the tapestry - the musical solitude which I explored is both liberating and daunting. I’m not sure if I’m hunting or gathering the sounds- perhaps scavenging as @mauroferreiro once described it. Like dsome musical bone marrow rescued from a rotting carcass of cultural information. Have obviously been going mad making these tracks so do let me know if anything is resonating as you are the first people to hear it I guess and I can’t really understand how this sounds to anybody else. Crumbs! Finally dropping my solo project. When I was a kid I was obsessed with making tunes on a little Akai s-20 sampler and an Atari ST. Between cutting up samples and working the Atari floppy disks - I ended up trying to record my own drum loops- which resulted in me accepting that I should learn the drums first. Few years back I acquired a sampler once more and it was like being transported back to my teenage years. This was some kind of musical root I had rediscovered, and I realised how central those machines are to the way I approach drums, as if the drum kit was actually some kind of acoustic sampler all along. Sampling for me is a kind of cuisine. You chop and prepare the ingredients and then you stir them in loops over a hot volume of energy. Tang and crunch, the whole experience is about tasting as you go. I don’t shop for ingredients rather I scavenge through the digital deluge. And here it is - a musical offering to the you music gods who are free to discard these crumbs, as they will be blown away along with us in the winds of time- forgotten in the eternal memory - reduced to a training data set of the great mind. Artwork is by yours truly. Mastered by @dotanthecohen - released as a self release on bandcamp only people. As always massive thanks to those who support.
