One of my main inspirations are corals. Here a few facts and antique illustrations before photography was a thing.

Corals aren’t plants, they’re animals - thousands of tiny polyps living as one. In warm shallow reefs, they team up with algae for color and food, fueled by sunlight. But go deeper, into total darkness, and coral still thrives. Cold water coral reefs grow in near freezing seas with no sunlight at all — they filter their food straight from the current. Some of these deep sea colonies have been growing for over four thousand years, making them among the oldest living things on Earth.

Reefs cover less than one percent of the ocean floor, yet they shelter a quarter of all marine life 🪸🦀 by @cometwithsword
