Y’all, most of my biggest projects did NOT come from a pitch. 👀

They came from someone saying my name in a room.

And that only happens because of how you build relationships in the first place. When you meet someone, it shouldn’t always be about asking for something. Be genuinely interested. Learn what they need. Find ways to help.

Then FOLLOW THROUGH. Follow up. Call instead of text. Remember what they told you. Ask if their mother is okay. Celebrate their wins.

Opportunities move through relationships. Someone remembers you. Someone trusts you. Someone says your name.

Just be somebody that cares. 💜

From @articulateatl’s The Business of Creativity panel. Who’s someone that said YOUR name in a room? Tag them 👇🏾

This is the business of art. Because knowing the business is what protects the art.

Just went to the Atlanta Art Fair and y’all… I’m still thinking about it. 🎨✨

Booth after booth of work that stopped me in my tracks. The storytelling, the color, the craft. Some of it had me standing there for a full minute just taking it in.

I left so inspired, and reminded why I do what I do. Atlanta’s art scene is RIGHT here. 💜

Which piece would you take home? 👇🏾

Went to a private dinner last night and y’all… I’m still sitting with it. 🖤

@serenetheagency Agency hosted A Night for Rashad A. Muhammad, and his pop-up exhibition Finding the Light. It’s mixed media collage work about how HIV/AIDS moves through individuals, families, and generations, and about breaking the silence that stigma creates.

Layered archival imagery, fabric, text, and texture. Every piece holds grief and joy in the same frame.

The line from the exhibition card I can’t stop thinking about: grief is not the end of the story. Resilience lives inside it.

Art like this is why we do what we do. Congratulations, @ramcreates Rashad. 💜

This week I had to jump on the mural. 🎨

Y’all, sometimes running the project means picking up a brush. I spent my Friday on the lift in Griffin assisting @lasttospeak bring this iris to life. Harness on, coat after coat, every board by hand.

We’re ALMOST done, and I can’t wait to show you the final product. Stay tuned. 💜

Before ComfiArt, I worked in medical tech telecom and TV. Before that I was designing packaging for Walmart and Target. Art doesn’t live in one lane and neither should you. by @comfiart

Part 2: here’s where it gets complicated.

Back then it was NFTs trying to solve this. But what about physical art? Would it need a tracker? A contract clause before the sale even happens?

If musicians’ estates get paid on replays, and actors get residuals on reruns, why is this so hard for visual artists? It shouldn’t be. What do y’all think?” #supportartists #creativeeconomy by @comfiart

Y’all seen the @therealswizzz and @aliciakeys news about resale royalties for artists? I’ve been thinking about this for YEARS.

I ran into this exact problem on a nonprofit project years ago trying to explain why an artist should get a cut when their original piece resells for way more than they were paid. It was NOT an easy conversation. Part 2 coming — let me tell you why. @comfiart by @comfiart

13 months into the Griffin project taught me things about development vs. public art contracts that don’t get talked about enough , how loans and grants shape timelines, how audits change the way you pay artists, how different this world is from a standard mural commission. Sharing more of what I learned soon. by @comfiart
