So, despite the fact that Gotham Knights, Multiverses, Quidditch Champions, and the Suicide Squad game failed, y’all are going to give it another shot? WB Games is looking for an executive producer for a live-service game. WB says the job includes “from concept to post-launch live operations, they will lead the development of a high-quality AAA game based on one of the iconic IPs from the vast Warner Bros. and DC Comics catalog.” I’m just gonna say it, live-service games are one of the primary reasons the video games industry is on fire. Hundreds of monthly layoffs, game cancellations, and studios closing up shop. Everyone wants to be a Fortnite or a Roblox, but those kinds of hits are rare. PlayStation is going through a rough time with all the live-service games they’ve had to can or even pull off store shelves, because they flopped so hard. WB shut down Monolith Productions, which was producing a single-player Wonder Woman game. I bet that could’ve been a hit. The online live-service game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, cost Rocksteady $200 million, which they stopped supporting in January 2025. On the other hand, Hogwarts Legacy, a single-player game, was a hit when it came out in 2023, beating Call of Duty and that year’s Madden. And as of March 2025, it has sold over 34 million copies. To mirror Hogwarts, the live-service game, Quidditch Champions, has an average of 20 people playing on Steam per day. I’m just ranting about the state of the games industry, because it isn’t looking good. I love my single-player games, great ones don’t come too often anymore. Please, James Gunn, for the love of all that is holy, get single-player DC games in production.

I am shocked to see the sad news that Sir Patrick Stewart has passed away. Of course, he’s best known for his role as Picard in Star Trek: The Next Generation, but his career spanned decades. I first saw Stewart in X-Men as Professor Charles Xavier. He was perfect for that role. Wise beyond his years. I also think of his character in American Dad when I think of him. He played King Goobot in the Jimmy Neutron movie. And Emperor Uriel in Oblivion. He had an iconic voice. Stewart became a Sir when Queen Elizabeth II knighted him in 2010. I was surprised when he popped up in the 1984 version of Dune. He had such a profound impact on pop culture. It’ll be so bittersweet when we see him on the big screen in Doomsday. He was loved by everyone in the nerdom community. I’ll probably shed a few tears next time I watch Logan. He will be greatly missed. He was 86. (1940 - 2026) by @comicwars_mas

I saw Clayface over the weekend and I thought it was very good. A great character study of someone who gets the worst luck all at once. It reminded me of Joker in that way. Directed by James Watkins, it’s advertised as a horror movie, but there are never really any scares. It is, however, very gruesome, it almost made me look away from the screen. But I couldn’t help but watch. The characters are really good, too. There are only a handful of players and they all serve a purpose. It’s very focused in that way. Starring Tom Rhys Harries as Matt Hagen. You’re introduced to him and you like him immediately. An actor who’s on his way to becoming a superstar, which only makes his fate more tragic. Naomi Ackie as Caitlyn Corr was great, too. She and Harries have really good chemistry. Max Minghella as John Borrelli, Caitlyn’s fiancé, was interesting as well. I normally don’t care much for the boyfriend character in movies, but they made this dude likable. However, the main villain was kind of forgettable. David Dencik plays mob boss Markos Szabo, but there isn’t anything particularly special. But, Joana Ribeiro, who plays his girlfriend, is someone you want to see her comeuppance more than the main bad guy. Even the supporting cast, like Eddie Marsan as Matt’s manager and Joshua James, who plays Matt’s friend, are more interesting characters than the villain. The effects were pretty good, especially considering it’s on a $40-ish million budget. I do wish there were more of an “in-between” morph when he changed into different characters instead of it being instantaneous. Michael Jackson’s “Black or White” video did it better in 1991. The score by Volker Bertelmann was alright. It’s very string-heavy, but nothing really stood out. Of course, I do have some negatives. I think I was missing a step in convincing me that Matt had become a villain. For example, when they revealed who his final kill was, I laughed a bit. I didn’t think he was that much of a villain to do that. I think there needed to be a couple more steps to get there. (Cont’d in comments) by @comicwars_mas

Update on the production of The Batman Part II. A few weeks ago, we heard that Reeves had to step away for personal reasons. We are now hearing that production will resume. Steven Soderbergh will now take over as director for Matt Reeves while he’s away. Soderbergh is known for the Ocean’s franchise and Magic Mike. The studio released a statement about Soderbergh coming on, “As Matt Reeves continues to attend to an ongoing family matter, Steven Soderbergh, as an admirer of Matt’s work, approached Matt and will step in, with the full support of DC Studios, to help the writer-director complete the final weeks of principal photography on The Batman Part 2. Matt and Steven will work closely together with the actors and crew to fulfill Matt’s vision of the film.”
And here’s what Soderbergh had to say, “I thought Matt Reeves’ work on The Batman was stunning; it was intentional, specific, and rigorously coherent. The goal here is to work with Matt and his team to generate footage that will integrate seamlessly with what’s already been shot so Matt can properly finish his film.”And finally, Reeves took to social media and put out a statement too, “Just to be clear, I am not leaving The Batman Part II. I am profoundly grateful to Steven for coming to my aid during this challenging time to help me finish principal photography. Thank you to all for your concern and well wishes.” We’ll see if this affects the release date in the big 2028. I really hope not.
