temporal journal and temporal pouch

as an extension to the temporal journal, in collaboration with @orionhubbard we designed a tyvek bag laser cut with specific graphic elements and shapes pulled directly from the journal’s design system. the holes allow paracord to be threaded through, creating a sling bag, as well as a dedicated pouch built to hold the journal or a field notes notebook. by @comishly

Designed + Printed + Hand Smyth Sewn by Me

i’m sentimental, and i’ve always been fascinated by the different ways we document our lives. growing up, so much of mine was captured digitally. camera rolls, screenshots, playlists, (my cs:go clips), all of these are documentations of my existence and tell a story of the person i am, but all of it just existed digitally.

with the digital and real life becoming heavily intertwined with one another i wanted to explore ways i could document this proof of existence in the most simple and intimate way as possible.

this project started as an exploration of what it means to have a ritual. i’ve always kept a journal and planner, but i’m not someone who sticks to a strict daily journaling practice nor am i very good at using my paper planner. i’ve started to use them more as a archive or record of my day to day. going back through an old planner and being able to see exactly what i was doing every single day the year before and just saving thoughts and ideas inside of my journal. that physical trace and documentation of life is what the temporal journal started from.

the temporal journal can be a functional tool, something to write in, tell a story, plan your day. but it’s also a time capsule. a way to remind yourself that the insignificant details are the whole story.

i want to look back and see how every single moment adds up. time and space might be the only things we can actually make sense of, in a world that otherwise doesn’t. this is an attempt to design a format that makes realizing your place in time feel a little more possible.
