We had a great time at the Macomb Business Awards with my favorite plus-one. ๐Ÿ’—

Congratulations to every honoree. You show why Macomb County is a great place to open or grow a business, and an even better place to make your home.

Thinking about moving your business here? Reach out. Iโ€™d love to help connect you with our planning department.

And one more thing: October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Schedule your screening, and remind someone you love to do the same.

For a year, our family lived just outside of Washington, D.C. That year was 2001.

As a kid, I vividly remember driving past the Pentagon while one of its wedges was undergoing major construction. I often thought about that building. To me, it was a symbol of protection, and I remember thinking that one day I would get a chance to see the inside.

The Pentagon was built during wartime, with construction beginning on September 11, 1941. The builders could never have known that this building would one day become an even greater symbol of Americaโ€™s resilience.

On Tuesday, September 11, 2001, while we were campaigning for third grade class president, we learned that a plane had crashed into the Twin Towers. At first, we thought it was just a terrible plane crash.

Then, about an hour later, we learned that another plane had crashed into the Pentagon.

Into the same wedge we had driven past so many times.

And yet, she still stood.

Freedom still stood. Protection still stood.

That day took 2,977 innocent lives. At the Pentagon alone, 184 people were killed. In the years that followed, thousands of first responders, rescue workers, recovery workers, and others would also lose their lives to illnesses connected to the aftermath of 9/11.

Today, we remember every life that was cut short.

We remember the first responders who ran toward danger, the families who never got to say goodbye, and the countless people who gave of themselves in the days, months, and years that followed.

And we remain focused on the best of America: freedom, resilience, service, and our shared responsibility to fight for the common good.

Never forget. by @commissionermh

Yesterday, we spent the day at Center Line High Schoolโ€™s Back to School Picnic! We wandered over to the Community Victory Garden and picked some fresh berries and summer squash. ๐ŸŒฑ๐Ÿฅ’

I love seeing our community come together, getting kids excited for the school year, and celebrating the incredible resources right in our own backyard.

Hereโ€™s to a great school year, Center Line! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’™ taken in Center Line, Michigan by @commissionermh

This Father's Day just got a whole lot sweeter!!!

๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œMeet the newest addition to our family, Violet Matilda Grace Howard๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’œ

Baby V was born on my favorite holiday, Juneteenth, a day that reminds us that freedom, hope, and opportunity are gifts worth fighting for and passing on to the next generation.

The greatest legacy we can leave our children is not wealth or status, but a world with greater freedom, opportunity, and hope than the one we inherited.

Violet, this world is full of chaos s crazy often times, may you meet it with brilliance and grace as you grow in wisdom and stature and favor with God and man Luke 2:52. by @commissionermh

๐ŸŸง Gun violence respects no color, age, income, or zip code and it is preventable.

I am proud to be a member of GIFFORDS Gun Owners for Safety, a coalition of responsible gun owners from across the country who advocate for common sense solutions, promote safe firearm ownership, and educate others on how to keep our communities safe.

I believe gun safety and the Second Amendment can coexist. We can protect constitutional rights while also protecting our children, families, and communities. We can have safer schools, safer churches, safer grocery stores, and safer neighborhoods. We can build a more perfect union. But it requires good people coming together, finding common ground, and working toward practical solutions that save lives.

For years, residents across Warren and Center Line have asked the same question: when are we finally going to fix Mound Road? Today, we are taking a major step forward toward that answer.

Macomb County is officially moving forward with critical road improvements on Mound Road south of I-696, while additional work on Dequindre Road is set to begin later this year. These are not just construction projects. They are investments in safer roads, stronger infrastructure, economic growth, and the working families who rely on these corridors every single day.

This work includes:
โ€ข Mound Road from 8 Mile to I-696
โ€ข Dequindre Road from 13 Mile to 14 Mile
โ€ข Dequindre Road from 8 Mile to Maple Lane

Together, these projects and additional pavement preservation efforts represent more than $15 million invested directly into our community while creating good-paying union jobs and delivering quality work built to last. (Done right the first time.)

Progress like this only happens when leaders at every level come together with a shared commitment to the people we serve. Thank you to County Executive Mark Hackel, Roads Director Santo of Macomb County Department of Roads, the Macomb County Board of Commissioners, and our federal partners for helping move this vision forward. taken in Warren, Michigan by @commissionermh
