I felt like a wedding photographer this morning trying to capture the big ole family that is The Big Crafty @thebigcrafty collection. Patchwork skirt and tank (married couple), your first! Next up, solid linen skirts (the matriarch, the glue that holds the family together)! Let’s get all the stripey/gingham cotton/linen blends (cousins)” etc.

You follow me? This is one example of how my brain keeps itself busy in the hours and hours of solitude handwork! By making up stories about each garment or in this case collections.

Introducing a new blouse I am working on - a sweet button down with a Peter Pan collar. I’m really, really loving how it’s turning out. I’ve long wanted to add this style to my offerings. What do you think? Do you live Peter Pan collars as much as I do????

This week, my favorite witch hazel tree is golden. She sits next to the creek that frames our homestead on one side. She is a constant presence to our days and I’ve loved watching her bloom with gusto every November just when every other deciduous around shrinks back into dormancy. There is something so beautiful about blooming during a time of dying.

This morning is a quintessential autumn one here. I’ve already enjoyed my morning walk up and down our dead end road, stood and admired our meandering mountain river for a moment, and paused to appreciate the morning sun as it shone through the golden hickories.

I’m very, very grateful. Now back to finishing up a woodland jacket, snacking on apple crisp, and enjoying the sound of a robust creek flow (remnants of a very rainy weekend). by @commonfolk.clothier

I’ve been making lots of fireside vests this month. They are made of linen - inside and out and have a very squishy, snuggly wool batting interior. Seriously delightful and comforting. by @commonfolk.clothier

Some lovely separates (meandering skirt & essential blouse) in All A Flurry linen heading out to their new home today. OEKO Tex certified. Grown and milled in Lithuania where there is a centuries old tradition of producing the most wonderful linen available. by @commonfolk.clothier

Alrighty Folks! Since it’s been a few days since I’ve reminded you all about the birthday raffle, I am extending it until October 8th at midnight. You have ONE MORE DAY to enter. Here’s a recap of what I’m up to: For my birthday this year, I am raffling off a pair of Foxfire boiled wool trousers or a Villager Vest to raise money for PODER Emma in Asheville, NC. @poderemma
PODER Emma is a community-led organization working to build economic opportunity, stability, and power within Asheville’s Latino community.
One of the ways they are doing this is through the Laboratorio Costurero, a community sewing space where people can learn, practice, create, and have access to industrial sewing machines and shared tools.
Their vision is to give people the skills and knowledge to “craft their own path and also work for the common good.”

TICKETS ARE $5 PER ENTRY. NO LIMIT ON ENTRIES.

Extending for one more day. You may enter until October 8th at midnight. I will draw the winner on October 8th.

It’s autumn! Oh October, you are the most beautiful time of the year here in Appalachia. I’m trying to savor every day. Loving this custom request. It’s the cottage dress with added buttons aaaaaalllll the way down. It’s not quite finished yet. Still need to add the patch pockets and of course, sew on a bunch of cute cherry wood buttons. This will be a fantastic cover up, light layer, duster situation’ 🥰 by @commonfolk.clothier
