Today, #CommonwealthDay was celebrated across our 56 member countries under the theme 'Unlocking opportunities for a prosperous Commonwealth'.

From London to Lilongwe and Auckland, communities came together to reaffirm a shared commitment to peace, partnership and progress.

In London, events included a flag-raising at the House of Commons, a wreath-laying ceremony at the Commonwealth Memorial Gates and a multi-faith service of celebration at Westminster Abbey.

As the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Hon Shirley Botchwey, said in her first Commonwealth Day message: "Our diversity is extraordinary… Those connections are powerful instruments for resilience and progress." by @commonwealth_sec

The road to #CHOGM2026 took Hon. Shirley Botchwey, Commonwealth Secretary-General, from London to The Bahamas this week.

In London she met Prime Minister Gaston Browne to discuss preparations for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, hosted in Antigua and Barbuda this November.

On her first official visit to The Bahamas, she spoke with leaders about education, digital skills, innovation and the priorities of small island states. She also heard how young people’s voices can help shape what comes next.

Her message throughout the week was clear: CHOGM must lead to practical action that improves the lives of the 2.7 billion people of the Commonwealth across our 56 countries. by @commonwealth_sec

The countdown to #CHOGM2026 is on!

To mark World Suicide Prevention Day, the Commonwealth Secretary-General, Hon Shirley Botchwey, joined youth advocates and practitioners for an intergenerational dialogue on mental health. The message was clear: listening must lead to action.
