Oh, my goodnessโ€”55 years! โฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธโฃ๏ธ

Fifty-five years ago today, I signed my very first coaching contract with the Ardrossan Figure Skating Club.

I was 19 years old.

Two weeks later, I signed my second contract with the Vegreville Figure Skating Clubโ€”and a lifeโ€™s path had begun.

I had been coached since I was 10. I am still coached today. That matters to me. We never reach a point at which there is nothing more to learn, nowhere further to grow, and no greater possibility waiting to be discovered.

From figure skating to leadership, voice, communication, and executive development, coaching, teaching, and training have been the great constants of my life.

They have taken me across countries, cultures, industries, and generations. They have allowed me to work with tens of thousands of peopleโ€”and they have taught me more about courage, discipline, potential, and the human spirit than I ever learned at university.

I am profoundly grateful that I found my way so young.

Most of all, I am grateful to every student, athlete, leader, executive, and client who has trusted me to walk alongside them for part of their journey.

You have challenged me. You have inspired me. You have taught me. And you have shaped the woman and teacher I am today.

Fifty-five yearsโ€”and I still love this work.

In fact, I may love it more deeply now than I ever have.

Thank youโ€”all of you. What an extraordinary privilege it has been.

After six months of living rather intimately with the desert - camels, mountains, sand, silence, and a rather different rhythm of life - I am ridiculously excited about spending almost a week in Dubai.

And what a week it will be!

Iโ€™m going back for work Iโ€™m genuinely excited about: emceeing and moderating a wonderful international event. There is something about standing on a stage, bringing people together, listening carefully, and helping a room come alive that still gives me enormous joy.

But I confess, Iโ€™m excited about the rest of it too.

๐‘ฉ๐’๐’๐’Œ๐’”๐’•๐’๐’“๐’†๐’”. Oh, bookstores. I may need to be supervised.

And, dear, dear friends whom I havenโ€™t seen nearly enough.

Restaurants. Coffee shops. People. Traffic.
Lambchops at the Red Lion.
Breakfast at Friends on Al Thanya.

I may even be happy to see the traffic. (Check with me again after a week of Sheikh Zayed Road. ๐Ÿ˜‚)

And those glorious Dubai high rises. As Stevie Wonder once sang, โ€œHigh rises and everythingโ€ฆโ€ ๐ŸŽถ

Six months in Suhailah has given me something I didnโ€™t expect: a renewed appreciation for the extraordinary contrasts of this country:

Desert and metropolis.
Silence and energy.
Camels and skyscrapers.
Ancient rhythms and relentless possibility.

I love them both.
But right now?

And donโ€™t worry, camels of Ras Al Khaimah. Iโ€™ll be back.

I canโ€™t leave you now. You mean too much to me. Youโ€™ve become my philosophy for living a balanced life.

Yes, the camel walks slowly. And sometimes, he has to visit the big city. ๐Ÿชโค๏ธ by @communicatepaddy

I posted a brief message this morning for ๐„๐ฆ๐ข๐ซ๐š๐ญ๐ข ๐–๐จ๐ฆ๐ž๐งโ€™๐ฌ ๐ƒ๐š๐ฒ. But somehow, it didnโ€™t feel like enough. ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ช

Because today is about far more than celebration.
It is about honour.

I have had the privilege of living in the United Arab Emirates for almost 5 years, and during that time I have come to know, work with, teach, learn from, and deeply admire Emirati women.

Strong women. Intelligent women. Beautiful women - and I mean a beauty that goes far beyond appearance.

There is a quiet strength I have witnessed here that I find remarkable. A strength rooted in family, heritage, faith, education, ambition, and an understanding that progress does not require leaving behind everything that came before.

That is why I love this image.
Three generations.

The woman who remembers where the journey began.

The woman helping to shape the nation today.

And the young girl looking towards a future that those before her helped make possible.

Each carries something from the woman before her. And each will leave something for the woman who follows.

That is legacy.

To the Emirati women I have had the privilege of knowing - and to those I have yet to meet - I celebrate you today.

May you continue to speak with conviction, claim your place, lead with courage, and create possibilities that the little girls watching you today have not even imagined yet.

As you are probably aware, Iโ€™ve come to have quite a fondness for camels.

There is something about their quiet strength and their endurance.
And the way they simply keep going.

A lovely reminder that sometimes strength isnโ€™t something we need to find.

Itโ€™s already there.

We just need to trust it. ๐Ÿชโค๏ธ

Today, ๐™๐™ค๐™ฃ๐™š ๐™„๐™จ ๐™ฉ๐™๐™š ๐™ˆ๐™š๐™จ๐™จ๐™–๐™œ๐™š: ๐™ƒ๐™ค๐™ฌ ๐™‘๐™ค๐™ž๐™˜๐™š, ๐™‹๐™ง๐™š๐™จ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™˜๐™š, ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™„๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™š๐™ฃ๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ ๐™Ž๐™๐™–๐™ฅ๐™š ๐™ˆ๐™š๐™–๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™œ is leaving my hands and going out to a small group of trusted first readers.

I have butterflies.

This is not the first manuscript I have written, but it may be the most important to me. It brings together so much of what a lifetime of listening, teaching, speaking, broadcasting, leading, and simply being human has taught me about communication.

At its heart is a simple idea: meaning does not live in our words alone. It is created between us - through voice, presence, intention, expression, culture, experience, and the way another human being receives us.

There is still a road ahead before publication. But today feels significant.

The manuscript is leaving home.

I hope I've raised it well. ๐Ÿ’™ by @communicatepaddy

I haven't been a student of Bob Proctor's since he passed away.

And yet, in so many ways, he is still present in my work.

I first learned from Bob in the mid-1990s in Vancouver. Then L.A. And Las Vegas. Once he got online, I was learning from him again.

I had the great privilege of knowing him.

Among the many things he taught me, he gave me a remarkably simple framework for growing a business - one that has stayed with me for more than three decades:

Those weren't simply lessons in business.
They became part of the way I chose to work.

To leave someone with the feeling of increase is a beautiful idea.

It means that after an encounter with you, a person somehow feels more - more capable, more confident, more hopeful, more aware of what is possible.

That principle has never left me. Nor have the other two.

Years ago, Bob gave me a compliment I have treasured ever since.

Playing on British Columbia's old tourism slogan, ๐™Ž๐™ช๐™ฅ๐™š๐™ง, ๐™‰๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™–๐™ก ๐˜ฝ๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™จ๐™ ๐˜พ๐™ค๐™ก๐™ช๐™ข๐™—๐™ž๐™–, he called me the "๐™Ž๐™ช๐™ฅ๐™š๐™ง๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™–๐™ก ๐™ž๐™ฃ ๐™Ž๐™ช๐™ฅ๐™š๐™ง๐™ฃ๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ช๐™ง๐™–๐™ก ๐˜ฝ๐™ง๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™จ๐™ ๐˜พ๐™ค๐™ก๐™ช๐™ข๐™—๐™ž๐™–.โ€

Of all the lovely things people have said to me throughout my life, that remains one of the most beautiful.

Teachers leave us. Their teaching doesn't have to.

Thank you, Bob. You are still present in the work. โค๏ธ by @communicatepaddy

๐“๐ก๐ž ๐‚๐š๐ฆ๐ž๐ฅ'๐ฌ ๐๐š๐œ๐ž

Living in the Middle East has taught me to admire the camel.

Quiet strength. Steady purpose. No hurry. No drama. Just another faithful step across the desert.

The world admires speed. We celebrate the fastest promotion, the quickest reply, the overnight success, and the race to get ahead.

The camel has never been interested in any of that.

A camel doesn't survive the desert because it is the fastest animal.

It survives because it knows its pace. It doesn't waste energy trying to impress the horses.

It doesn't envy the falcon. It simply keeps walking, step after steady step.

The desert rewards endurance far more generously than it rewards speed.

Perhaps life does too.

The older I become, the more I admire those who have found a sustainable rhythm.

They know when to work. They know when to rest.

They understand that arriving exhausted is not the same as arriving well.

The camel reminds us that strength is rarely dramatic.

It is quiet.

It is consistent.

And, always, it is enough.

I am grateful to present you with our 5th episode in the 4th podcast series of the Wize Move Society with our guest Paddy Kennedy ุจุงุฏูŠ ูƒูŠู†ูŠุฏูŠ. Paddy is a real global citizen and has an amazing wisdom to tap into for this series 'the Wisdom of the Elders, Stories with a Message'.

According to Paddy, being an elder is not so much related to age; She is aware that young people can be very wise as well!

'What really makes an elder is not just the number of years but it is the reflection, looking back at the lives we have lived, the world we have lived in, the world we continue to live in and looking upon it with curiosity, asking questions; with a sense of still discovering. Being aware we are still learning; so question, be curious and reflect!

She believes that the universe is made up of stories. We can share so much wisdom, so much knowledge in stories. But it is not only about the stories we share, it is also about the stories we tell ourselves. The stories we tell ourselves, are the stories we live. We have the power to change that story'.

listen to her story and please leave a message or share it with your friends

Living out here, in the desert of Suhailah, I think a lot about camels.

They're not built for speed.
They're built for endurance.

In business, in leadership, and in life, we sometimes mistake fast for successful.

I've come to believe something different.
Progress isn't always dramatic.
Sometimes it's simply the courage to keep walking toward the horizon.

The camel walks slowly, but it crosses the desert.

I think there's wisdom in that.
