A job in the financial sector, the dream after studying law. Well, at least for me, it was a dream. About 15 years ago, I started my career as a woman in the financial sector.

It didn't take long before I became "one of the boys."

Because in a world where mostly men work, it was easier to become a part of it.

Until, the age of 36, I hit rock bottom due to various private circumstances. From Zuidas, everything on track, to no money, no house, only shame, and the feeling of failure.

I did everything, both personally and professionally, with a goal-oriented, competitive mindset, and certainly not from vulnerability, softness, and intuition. Qualities that naturally belong to women but that I had lost.

I pulled myself back up, discovering the power of my feminine energy and the strength of feminine leadership.

I showed my pain, and with that, my mask came off. There was no need for shame in the situation.

What it taught me was that by embracing my feminine identity - vulnerability, softness, intuition, and intellect - I became more connected with others.

I did this in my business life too, leading more from my feminine identity. What I saw was that this brought about a change in how people connected.

I noticed that negotiating became easier. And there was more engagement in my team.

And still, as an interim legal professional, the feedback I receive is that I don't lead from authority but from authenticity, open communication, and connection.

You don’t lose your power because you’re a woman.
�You lose it when you silence the parts of you that make your leadership intuitive, steady, and different from the room you’re in.

In male-driven environments, many women slip into survival mode and become one of the boys.
�Harder voice. Less emotion. More logic.
�But survival isn’t leadership.
�And leadership shouldn’t drain the life out of you.

Here are 5 things to stop doing if you want to rise without losing yourself:

1. Stop forcing yourself to lead the way you think you “should.” That tough, detached style isn’t power it’s armour. Your intuition, empathy, and creative thinking aren’t soft. They’re why people feel safe following you.

2. Stop saying yes to everything just to prove your worth. Over-delivering doesn’t earn respect. It earns exhaustion. Boundaries aren’t resistance they’re clarity.

3. Stop shutting down your emotions to blend in.�Your emotional intelligence isn’t too much. It’s exactly what most teams are starving for.

4. Stop shrinking your voice to keep others comfortable. Your ideas don’t need smoothing, sugar-coating, or apologising. Steady. Clear. Direct. That’s enough.

5. Stop dismissing your intuition in favour of logic only decisions. Real leadership comes from knowing when your mind is speaking and when your inner signal is right. Don’t contort yourself to fit a system that was never built with you in mind.

You lead best when you lead as yourself.

When your mind rushes ahead, but your body hits the brakes

Sometimes you’re not “blocked.” 
You’re just ignoring the part of you that’s telling the truth first.

This morning reminded me of that. 
My brain wanted progress. 
My body wanted a timeout. And honestly?

My body was right.

We love to think productivity is a mindset.
 But half the time, it’s your nervous system tapping you on the shoulder saying: “Slow down before you mess this up.”

The second I listened, everything unfroze.
 Not magic.
 Not discipline.

✨ I don’t lead without empathy. It’s the one thing I refuse to sacrifice.
 ✨ I stopped overriding my intuition just to look reasonable.
 ✨ I lead through connection, not control — people feel that instantly.
 ✨ And yes: intuition is strategy. I’ve seen it call the shot before any data point did.

My leadership today is built on empathy, intuition and trust.
 Not on fear.
Not on proving I’m tough enough.

Leadership doesn’t ask me to harden.
 It asks me to feel deeper so I can lead wiser. by @completing_the_circle
