Four cuts, in this order, when a two minute explainer needs to be ninety seconds.

Delete the first ten seconds. The opening nearly always sets up a problem the viewer already has, so start on the second sentence. Then cut every hypothetical: the word imagine costs about eight seconds and persuades nobody. Then stop trying to keep all the points. Three ideas held for six seconds each read as confident. Six at three seconds read as a list.

Last one, and the only reliable test. Record yourself reading the voiceover at a normal pace with no music. Whatever you stumble over is the line to cut, and the total is your real runtime.

Most private collections are, in practice, uninsurable. Not because an insurer refuses, but because nobody can produce the document.

An inventory an insurer will accept needs the same fields every time. What the object is, in plain words. When and where you acquired it, and from whom. The receipt or the lot number. What you paid, what it is worth now, and the basis for that second figure. Its condition, written out, with a dated photograph. And all of it in one file rather than a shoebox and a memory.

We see the same four failures in fintech films, and all four happen before anyone animates anything.

Opening on the problem, buying trust with stock footage, explaining the category instead of the company, and a script with six owners. The last one causes the other three, because a film edited by committee loses whatever position it started with.

The fix is dull. Decide who gets to say what the film is, in one sentence, before the sketch phase.

Two things shipped in September. On the 9th, Adobe put an agentic AI Assistant into the After Effects beta: natural language in, operations and JavaScript expressions out. On the 30th, Maxon shipped Cinema 4D 2026.4 with an MCP server, so an agent can drive tasks in the scene directly.

Whatever you think of that, notice what it does to the skill ladder. Knowing where a tool sits in a menu is worth less than it was in August. Knowing precisely what you want the frame to do is worth more.

The second one was always the hard part. It has just stopped hiding behind the first.

Events is one of our five disciplines. Conference graphics, stage content, motion environments, live AV, from the title card to the closing reel.

It is the least forgiving format we work in. A film can be paused and rewatched. A stage runs once, in a room, at a fixed size, with the lighting the venue gives you and no second take. Everything has to read from the back row in about two seconds.

Design for the back row and the front row takes care of itself.

A type specimen that says Latin Extended is not a promise that the font can set Turkish.

Three failures we see constantly. Turkish has a dotless i and a dotted capital I as separate letters, U+0131 and U+0130, so a font shipping only the Latin pair changes words. Vietnamese stacks a tone mark on a vowel that already carries a diacritic, and most fonts have the characters with no instructions for stacking them, so the marks collide. Persian letters need four positional forms, so a font with the code points and no shaping renders as stumps.

The fix costs nothing. Ask the client for one real sentence per language, set it at 16px and at 96px, and look. Ten seconds, before the licence is bought.

Every product build has a screen with nothing on it. No records, no projects, no data. It is the first thing a new user sees and it is almost never in the brief.

We learned that building Vitrine. A collection manager holding 4,000 objects looks impressive in a mockup. A collection manager on day one is a blank table and a person wondering whether they have made a mistake. An empty state has to do three things: say what goes here, show one real example, and give exactly one next action. Offer two and nobody picks either.

So we draw the empty screen before the full one now. If it works with nothing in it, the rest is easier.

€28,000 bought Galway a new civic identity in September. The mark, the colour, the bilingual lockup, and the rollout across everything a council touches.

A poll of 120 local businesses came back more than 98% against it, and most of the objection was the money.

Here is the uncomfortable part for anyone who does this for a living. €28,000 is not a lot. A single exhibition stand costs that. Design gets argued about on price because the price is the only part of it anyone can see. Nobody publishes what the tender for the bins cost.

Privates ships stealth app icons. You can make it look like a calculator on your home screen.

That sounds like a gimmick until you think about who needs it. A shared phone. A controlling partner. A country where reproductive health data has become a legal risk. The threat is often in the room, not on the network.

Underneath, the data never leaves the device. Local-first, encrypted at rest with an Argon2id key hierarchy over SQLCipher, zero outbound network calls. Even we cannot read it.
