We’re excited to share “EVERY NOW N’THEN . . .”, a solo exhibition by Robert Fields @bobfieldshere at Compound Yellow.

On view: September 13–October 17, 2026
Saturdays, 2–6 PM, and by appointment

Opening Reception:
Sunday, September 13, 2026
2–6 PM

BOB FIELDS is an interdisciplinary artist . . . including sculpture, printmaking and mail art. He holds an MFA from the Pacific Northwest College of Art, Portland, OR, and a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Fields often creates three dimensional Works responding to our tumultuous, polarized time . . . occasionally peppered with a pinch of his personal story.
He believes Art can surprise us, by capturing our attention, stir curiosity, and wonder. By encouraging creative, honest conversation, trust, Art demonstrates how looking through alternative lenses . . . close reading, teasing-out previously unimagined approaches . . . New Solutions can / and do unexpectedly appear . . . Encouraging the taking on of more courageous approaches in solving / establishing a more equitable + peaceful world.

For Fields, making begins with Observation. / Questions. / Followed by yet more Questions. Leading to Research. / More Reading. / List making. / Sorting. / Sketching . . . while adding-in a pound or two of Risk-Taking for good measure. Materials / processes and scale are also considered as to how they contribute to context, expand upon the narrative, capture and hold the viewers’ curiosity. All the while looking / listening to the work: “Say what?” //

Join us for Side Yard Sounds: Dan Petry ( @danpetry )and Mark Snyder ( @marklogansnyder ), an ambient soundscapes night on Saturday, October 3, 2026, from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM!

Tickets available in bio or at the door.

Daniel Petry makes beat-driven ambient built from plinking Euclidean melodies, fuzzy bass and slow-moving pads, with fragments of film dialogue drifting over the top. The music moves between subtle club pulse and long-form immersion; rhythmic but unhurried. His sets are semi-improvised: core harmonies and vocal samples are prepared, while patterns and structure evolve live. Originally from the UK, with time spent in Berlin and now based in Chicago, Petry draws on the experimental edge of British electronic music while keeping his sound personal and understated. He has released on Third Ear Recordings and independently, and previously wrote for Resident Advisor.

Mark Snyder’s shows have been described as a “fantastic and colorful sonic journey of musical storytelling” brought to life with a menagerie of sounds created, reflected, decorated, found, and processed. Ambient tales that float in abstract light and images, sometimes ambulating into joy, sadness, or tragedy before drifting away into silence.

Mark Snyder: Accordion, Theremin, Clarinet, etc.

Mark makes music and art for himself, clients and friends in his Simpleton Sound studio in Maywood Illinois, helps his students do the same at Northern Illinois University and is the audio producer for the Southeast Asian Crossroads podcast.

Join us for an experimental night of improvised music with Tommaso Moretti and Elijah McLaughlin ( @elijah_mclaughlin_ ), featuring Mai Sugimoto ( @sugifoto )on Friday, 7 PM to 9 PM September 25, 2026

Chicago-based musicians and bandleaders Elijah McLaughlin and Tommaso Moretti come together in an exciting new project that explores the vast landscape of improvised music. Drawing from a rich mix of personal influences—ranging from minimalism and jazz to ambient, psychedelia, and experimental rock—the duo crafts a sound that blends melodic lyricism, hypnotic grooves, and ever-evolving harmonic textures. Their dynamic, forward-driven music is grounded in the present moment, yet propels the listener on a captivating sonic journey. To join the duo in a special performance at the Compound Yellow will be the acclaimed saxophonist and flutist Mai Sugimoto. by @compoundyellow
