👀 Artist spotlight for next weekend.
Papers are two brothers from London making distorted techno.
👣Having run Belly of the Beast in Manchester for years, booking DVS1, Marc Houle and Jerome Sydenham, alongside a run of well-known squat parties they released a sought after series of records.

👂Four records as Papers followed, played by the likes of Surgeon, plus releases on Fever AM. They also curated Brothers, a vinyl-only series that paired up first-time collaborators including Truss & Tessela (now Overmono).

Expect left-field distortion and driving rhythms from techno’s tougher edge.

Record store founder. Label runner. Track maker. Digger. DJ. These titles alone can’t fully describe the force of energy that is Naoyuki Yamakawa aka @djcompufunk, founder of @compufunk_records has created something rare. It’s not that there’s too little to say about him. It’s the opposite: there’s a shop, a label, a discography, a decades-long list of artists he’s shared a booth with.

What’s harder to see, buried under all of that documentation, is the throughline and the fact that he’s stayed curious the entire time. As listening habits changed, as the internet reshaped how people find music, as the world simply moved faster, he never really slowed down. He adapted, again and again, without losing sight of why he started in the first place.

L.A. 2000 & DJ SOTOFETT_Salik/Dub Toner_Bless Up/WANIA
New on the "WANIA mk" series is a double A-side supersonic 12", with two tracks previously circulating as dubplate only. "Bless Up" by Salik (who co-runs Going Good, and of WANIA fame) is simply a deep and controlled Dubstep-goes-Breakbeat knockout. L.A. 2000 & DJ Sotofett continue their collaboration from WANIA mk1 and mk2 with a Dub Techno Stepper. THIS 12" IS CUT WITH LOUD VOLUME FOR EXCELLENT CLUB USE! @sotofett taken in Compufunk Records by @compufunk_records
