📚 WE ARE MAGCLOUD PUBLISHED
MagCloud (@Magcloud) is an online self-publishing service originally launched by Hewlett Packard (@HP) in 2008 and later acquired by Blurb (@BlurbBooks) in 2014. It is now operated by Reischling Press Inc. (RPI, @ReischlingPressInc), the parent company of Blurb, and continues serving creators who want professional printing without the cost or limitations of traditional publishing.

MagCloud offers print-on-demand publishing, high-quality commercial printing, a wide range of publication formats, worldwide distribution, digital publishing options, built-in e-commerce tools, and access to design templates. Their templates work well for standard publications, but they are fairly plain and not suited to our creative direction. That is why "Amelia the Neek" Wysocki (@AmeliaNeek) designs our templates, giving our publications a distinct look that MagCloud's default layouts cannot provide.

Independent creators use MagCloud to publish niche magazines, art books, photography magazines, and marketing materials without relying on traditional, overpriced publishers. Businesses use it for brochures, catalogs, event programs, and promotional materials. Established magazines often use MagCloud to offer back issues or limited-run editions, taking advantage of its print-as-needed model and global reach.

Getting the attention and dedication of a traditional publisher is complicated and often very expensive, requiring massive financial investments; there are no guaranteed returns, even if you have VIP promoters in your pocket. For this reason, more and more people choose self-publishing. Thanks to social media, traditional publication marketing is nearly obsolete.

ℹ️ CONCEPTUM MAGAZINE RETURNS
Character Art & Design belongs to a discipline known as Concept Art. It is the process of communicating an artist's vision of how a character might appear in a future project, whether for film, television, or video games. The entertainment industry relies on Concept Art to visualize ideas before committing the immense talent, time, and money required for production.

Every aspect of a character can be explored during this stage, including, but certainly not limited to, facial features, height, physique, skin texture, fashion, cultural influences, etc. Chun-Li, Spock, Mickey Mouse, Iron Man... they all began as a simple sketch. Today, with the power of digital media, those concepts are refined and reimagined into new and better versions every single day.

Despite its long history, widespread appreciation for Character Art has only recently entered the mainstream, largely because major production studios now allow their artists to regularly share both used and unused concept work on social media.

Conceptum Magazine scours the internet in search of the world's most exceptional Character Artists. Despite their remarkable talent, many of these artists have never been hired by a production studio or published professionally, until now. Through both our print publication and online platforms, we aim to give these artists the recognition they deserve while connecting talented amateurs with the studios, publishers, and industry professionals who have the resources and authority to hire them and change their lives.

Submissions should exhibit consistent anatomy (where applicable), perspective, lighting, materials, composition, and overall execution. Images containing obvious AI artifacts, unintended distortions, poor composition, low resolution, or inconsistent visual elements will not be accepted.

Conceptum accepts contributions from artists of all ages, but our quality standards are strict. Please be aware that some issues may include artistic nudity. However, sexually explicit content will not be accepted.

ℹ️ CONCEPT BEFORE FORM
Every aspiring character artist eventually faces the same temptation: opening a blank canvas and immediately chasing the coolest silhouette, the most intricate costume, or the most intimidating anatomy. While there is nothing wrong with creating visually striking artwork, the truth is that the greatest characters in entertainment history were never successful because of their appearance alone. They became legends because someone first developed a compelling character concept.

Character design is not decoration. It is visual storytelling. Before a single line is drawn, a character should already have purpose. Who are they? What role do they serve? What emotions should they evoke? What makes them memorable? These questions shape every creative decision that follows, from posture and proportions to color palette and costume.

Far too often, artists invest countless hours sculpting elaborate details around a concept that simply is not interesting. No amount of technical skill can rescue a weak idea. Conversely, a strong concept can shine even when represented by nothing more than rough sketches.

History offers countless examples. Take Goro from Mortal Kombat. Today he stands as one of gaming's most recognizable monsters, but his original design was surprisingly straightforward. He was simply an enormous, four armed warrior whose overwhelming physical presence immediately established him as an impossible obstacle. There was no elaborate armor or excessive ornamentation. The idea came first. His distinctive anatomy, expression, and animation were all developed to reinforce that singular concept.
