Last week, I announced my intent to seek Ceres City Council District 1 and I am so thankful for the overwhelming support from our community.

While our city faces many challenges, I believe our best days can still be ahead of us, if we work together to build a stronger community for our friends, neighbors, and fellow residents.

As your Councilmember, I am committed to bringing a fresh approach to city hall which will focus on fiscal responsibility, transparency, strengthening public safety and creating opportunities for our youth. I will be accessible to District 1 residents, and our community.

As we get closer to the election, if you’d like to join the campaign, request a yard sign or simply offer your support- please feel free to reach out to me directly!

I am honored to have the support of the Ceres Police Officer Association, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Supervisors Association, and the Nor Cal Carpenters Union in my campaign for Ceres City Council.

I will be a strong advocate for the men and women who keep our city safe and will work toward reinstating the Street Crimes Unit to proactively keep Ceres streets safe. My goal as your next Councilmember is to make Ceres the safest and cleanest city in the County. That is a realistic goal our leaders should prioritize each and everyday.

Ballots have arrived, and I strongly encourage District 1 voters to educate themselves on the two choices you have in this election. If you have any questions before casting your vote, please feel free to reach out to me directly.

Ceres taxpayers footed the bill for campaign material supporting a sales tax increase.

On September 4th, I submitted a Public Records Act request to the City Clerk’s Office asking whether Ceres taxpayer dollars were used to send a pro-Measure P mailer to residents.

Ten days later, I received my answer: Yes. The City of Ceres spent nearly $11,000 from the General Fund to send the mailer to residents.

Let’s put that into perspective.

The City can find nearly $11,000 in taxpayer money to promote a measure that would increase your taxes but where is that same level of outreach when it comes to advertising City Council meetings, budget workshops, community meetings, and other important information residents deserve to know about year-round?

Our tax dollars should be used to inform residents, not promote a tax increase. We need change at City Hall. by @conditforceres

Tomorrow, the City of Ceres is hosting a community meeting, the first in a very, very long time.

Community meetings and town halls give the public an opportunity to be part of the process. However, it’s very distasteful that this only comes after the City Council voted 4–1 to move forward with Measure P, a general sales tax increase that would make the City of Ceres have the highest sales tax rate in the county.

Hosting community meetings only in election season is a disservice to the governing process, but also to our residents who call Ceres home. These important conversations should have been happening years ago.

Our city government should be accessible to residents year-round, not just when they want to raise our taxes. Our community deserves regular town halls, meaningful public engagement, and a seat at the table when decisions are being made at City Hall. by @conditforceres

3.12% TAX INCREASE, BUT WHERE IS THE SERVICE?

The Ceres City Council voted 3-1 to increase assessments for Landscape & Lighting Districts throughout the City of Ceres by 3.12%.

In District 1, residents along N. Central Avenue and River Road pay into a Landscape & Lighting District to maintain beautification areas that are supposed to be regularly cared for by the City. Residents in District 3’s Eastgate area and several neighborhoods in District 2 will also see this increase, despite ongoing concerns about the lack of upkeep and service.

For many years now, the City has fallen short in ensuring that contractors complete the required maintenance, and staffing shortages have prevented City employees from taking on those responsibilities themselves.

Despite these service issues, the majority of the Ceres City Council, Rosalinda Vierra, Daniel Martinez, and Javier Lopez voted to increase the assessments on residents by 3.12%.

Residents deserve accountability and results before being asked to pay more.

If the City isn’t providing the service residents are paying for, why are they being asked to pay even more? taken in Ceres, California by @conditforceres

CERES CITY COUNCIL TO CONSIDER MORATORIUM ON NEW FUELING STATIONS AND CAR WASHES

If we believe Ceres can offer families more than a clean car and a full tank of gas, we must start prioritizing our limited commercial development that brings new businesses, creates opportunities, and improves the quality of life for our community.

The statistics and data speak for itself. Ceres is oversaturated with fueling stations and car washes, and we should prioritize development that brings greater value, opportunity, and long-term benefit to our community.

• The City of Ceres is home to 20 fueling stations, with 3 more in development and 10 car washes.
• Ceres has 4.7 gas stations per 10,000 residents
• State average is 2.6 gas stations per 10,000 residents
• Modesto has 3.6 gas stations per 10,000 residents
• Car Washes generate little to no sales tax revenue for the city
• This moratorium would not impact the Maverik project on Mitchell road or any other projects that have already been approved.

As a Ceres Planning Commissioner, it is my responsibility to vote in the best interests of our community and listen to the voices of our residents. For years, Ceres residents have consistently expressed a desire to attract a greater variety of businesses not more of the same gas stations, car washes and repeat businesses we already have in our City.

Today, the City of Ceres has 20 gas stations, with three more currently in development. A temporary moratorium would not affect those three approved projects. Instead, it would give the City an opportunity to evaluate whether we have reached an appropriate number of gas stations for a community our size. Ceres is also home to 10 car washes, which bring in zero sales tax revenue, further highlighting the concentration of these types of businesses.

To put this into perspective:
• Ceres: 4.7 gas stations per 10,000 residents (population approximately 49,000)
• California average: 2.65 gas stations per 10,000 residents
• Modesto: 3.62 gas stations per 10,000 residents (population more than 200,000)
• Tracy: 2.6 gas stations per 10,000 residents (population more than 100,000)

Ceres continues to see repeated development of businesses we already have in abundance, while many retail stores, restaurants, family entertainment venues, youth recreation opportunities, and other quality services remain limited or unavailable.

As members of the Planning Commission, our authority is limited, but we fulfilled our responsibility by making an official recommendation to the City Council. The next step rests with the City Council. It is ultimately their responsibility to establish policies that encourage a more diverse mix of businesses that strengthen our local economy, expand opportunities for residents, and position Ceres to better compete with neighboring communities.

According to the City Manager, Steve Williams, the City Council is expected to provide direction on this issue in August. If you want your voice heard, stay informed about when this item will come before the Council and make your voice part of the conversation. Public input matters, and your participation can make a difference. taken in Ceres, California by @conditforceres

Today, alongside my wife and son, I officially pulled my nomination papers to run for Ceres City Council, representing District 1.

Ceres is truly at a crossroads. Our city is facing serious challenges, including budget concerns, the threat of bankruptcy, blight, a lack of transparency, staffing shortages, dissolving recreational opportunities and more. I believe we can do better, and I’m committed to working toward real solutions that will strengthen our community for decades to come.

I refuse to give up on the city I call home.

Please take a look at the District 1 map. If you live within the district and would like to support by displaying a yard sign or if you have any questions, I would love to hear from you. Thank you for your support!

A couple of weeks ago, Destiny and I had the privilege of awarding scholarships to nine incredible seniors from Ceres High School as they prepare to begin their college journeys.

Four seniors received the Condit Public Service Scholarship, which was created to recognize students who have demonstrated a strong commitment to serving and giving back to their communities. We are incredibly proud of the impact they have already made and excited to see all they will accomplish in the future.

Five seniors were awarded the Rev. Adrian Condit Memorial Scholarship, which honors students who actively serve in their church, school faith-based clubs, and local communities. This scholarship was established in memory of my great-grandfather, Rev. Adrian Condit, who dedicated more than 60 years of his life to ministry. Through this scholarship, we are honored to carry forward his legacy of faith, service, and leadership. We are deeply grateful to Celebrate Christ Community Church, Village Chapel Free-Will Baptist Church, and the community members whose generous donations helped expand this scholarship this year in honor of my great-grandfather.

These scholarships hold a special place in our hearts, and Destiny and I are honored to invest in the next generation of leaders. 🐾🎓
