No better way to spend our Sunday afternoon 🎹🎻💛

Thank you to everyone who joined us at the Orpheum this weekend, whether you came for Ken and Avan’s reunion, for an afternoon of Chopin, Ravel, and De Falla, or simply for the love of live music. You filled the hall, and we’re so grateful.

Here’s to a beautiful start to our 24th season.

🎶 Music has a way of expressing what words sometimes cannot, but it also has a beautiful way of bringing people together and creating friendships that span decades ❤️

Today I’m celebrating my dear friend, the wonderful Maestro Kenneth Hsieh @conductorken, conductor of the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra @vmocanada 🎼

Ken and I share so many memories dating all the way back to our university days, when we were both so young, and it has been such a thrill to watch his exciting career explode over the years 🎼✨

For those of you in Vancouver, I also want to encourage you to experience the Vancouver Metropolitan Orchestra in concert. I’ll be sharing their upcoming performances as they are announced. Their concerts feature wonderful musicians, exciting soloists, and opportunities for some of our finest young artists to perform 🎻🎹

There is something very special about friendships that travel with us through the different seasons of our lives, and music has been woven through so many of those memories for Ken and me.

Cheers to music, to friendship, to decades of memories, and to you today, my dear friend Ken! 🥂🎶❤️ by @conductorken

In 2004, Ken Hsieh became the youngest Conductor-in-Residence in Vancouver Symphony history. In 2006, he conducted a young pianist’s professional performance for the very first time. Twenty years and hundreds of performances later, he’s still finding reasons to bring people back to the stage. Swipe to meet the Maestro. 🪄🎶

One of our absolute favourite moments of the night ✨ When @violynnkuo brought pure magic to the stage with her stunning solo. And we LOVED seeing @conductorken sit down and simply take it all in. 🎻🤍 taken in Harbourfront Centre by @conductorken

This September, the VMO invites you to experience Chopin’s virtuosity, Ravel’s wit and De Falla’s fire, the way they were meant to be experienced: live, together, and in person. 😌🎶

With Avan Yu on piano and Maestro Ken Hsieh conducting, it’s a musical reunion you won’t want to miss.

Here’s to 10 years, and many more to come. 🎻🌇

Thank you to everyone who made VMO’s 10th Annual Free Outdoor Concert possible: our sponsors and supporters, our incredible musicians, our dedicated volunteers, and every one of you in the crowd.

This concert is free because a whole community believes in live music for everyone. We couldn’t be more grateful.

More people turned out this year than ever before, and it meant the world to see so many faces at Jack Poole Plaza.

We can’t wait to see you again at our 24th Season Opening Concert at the Orpheum on September 20th!
