On Wednesday, the HCC staff had the most wonderful team-building professional development experience. How? By doing Improv Theater! We would like to thank John Windmueller over at @washingtonimprovtheater for teaching us the applied improv ropes and the science on how improv skills can help in a professional setting. Dead Man’s Run is Congressional Cemetery's annual fall 5K fundraiser race! We hope that you will join us Saturday, October 10 at 5:00 PM for the region’s most death defying and thematic 5k race. This run is the best way to stay ahead of your grave… by running among them! The race starts inside the cemetery and continues onto the Anacostia Trail for a ghostly evening run full of spooky music, costume contest, and other fun.Costumes are encouraged, with prizes for best individual costume and best team costume. Form a team to compete with your friends – and we love to see creative team names. Reminder: The next meeting of Creative Crypt is happening this Saturday at 1 pm. This will be a silent workshop, so get ready to make progress on those creative projects.If this is your first time hearing about this, Creative Crypt is an extension of the writing group, Mausoleums and Manuscripts. It’s a two-hour work time for creative projects like writing, visual arts, fiber arts and more. Meet other creative people and make progress on your projects in the inspiring environment of HCC. It’s completely free join, just RSVP at the link in our bio!Creative Crypt will have two categories: silent workshops and chatty workshops.Silent workshops are a quiet workspace with very limited talking. This time encourages you to get into a workflow in an environment with other creatives. Headphones are allowed.Chatty workshops are just that – a time to chat and work. We are incredibly excited to announce that we are recipients of a HumanitiesDC grant (@HumanitiesDC)! We received the 2026 General Operating Support Grant, which will provide funds to different facets of the cemetery operation with a focus on public programming and K-12 education. At Congressional Cemetery, we want to invite the public to rest, rejuvenate, and practice yoga in a unique environment with the Rest In Poses yoga class. Grab your yoga mat and join us at 11 am on August 1st!The class is Vinyasa style flow, beginner friendly, and will be taught by Jennifer Carpenter of Jenuine Yogi (@jenuineyogi). Please come support a new public arts project proposal with HCC by attending July 14th's ANC 6B meeting. Join in person 7:00 - 10:00 PM, at 700 Pennsylvania Ave SE (1st Floor), Washington, DC 20003, or online!HCC is inviting DC-based artist Nekisha Durrett to create a new, temporary and site-specific public art installation. "The Seed Keepers" seeks to establish a deeply enriched conversation about the history and legacy of Congressional's unmarked African-American section, memorializing the people interred here and creating a dialog with the site as it relates to the history of DC, enslavement and segregation, memory and loss.As this public art project is for the community, HCC would like to have full community support as they press forward into the process of funding, fabricating, and installing this wonderful reflection on HCC's history.
