POSTS STORIES REELS

Our next episode dropped and it’s a great listen for your Sunday reset.

Kids are resilient” is something we hear all the time, and yet so many of us still remember the moments from childhood when an adult didn’t believe us or couldn’t show up for us.

In Part 1 of Messy Kid Relationships, we share some of our own childhood ruptures and talk about how kids adapt when repair doesn’t happen. Some kids act out, some go quiet and try to be perfect, and some learn to make sense of everything in their heads so they don’t have to feel it. We also talk about why the kids who seem to be doing fine are often the ones who get missed.

Part 1 is live now, and Part 2 is coming soon. The link is in our bio.

Parenting hack coming in hot 🥵

As a social worker I explicitly learned this skill. And I’ve applied it to my parenting ever since.

You don’t want to just parent in the moment, you will end up at some point in the future looking back and regretting your decisions.

With your parenting think about what you want your kids to know and what kind of people you want them to be, then plan backwards.

In this video I share how I wanted my kids to be savers not spenders as the system we developed to get them there.

We started this system about 8 years ago and my kids recently told me it was a solid parenting move!

In what ways have you or will you plan backwards? by @connectflowgrow

Which one do you relate to most?

Me, 1. I remember one time with the boys were little and some sort of fight was going down over I toy I threatened to break it with a hammer …

And then they cheered me on to do it 🫠

Parenting fail for sure. by @connectflowgrow

Disclaimer: this is a very subjective statement. I had more moments of being reactive than I wanted. I am also a loving and present parent.

The reactivity was because my needs weren’t met. Some of it was historical (trauma) and some of it due to life’s daily challenges.

Regardless my kids deserved better and I wanted to be better.

If this sounds like you make sure you are following along because I’m going to help you be less reactive, and more steady, present, attuned, and loving. by @connectflowgrow

Soaking up every moment with them❤️

I will forever buy the concert tickets and make the travel plans just to get a little more time with them. by @connectflowgrow

Part two of our conversation on men, fatherhood, and connection picks up where we left off, this time focused on parenting older kids and teenagers.

We talk about fear based parenting, how to set boundaries around money and responsibility without losing connection, and why so many men struggle to find real friendship with other men.

One guest describes how he intentionally built a circle of men he trusts enough to be vulnerable with. The other talks about turning his barbershop into a space where honest conversation is the norm, not the exception.

Back to school part 12

If you are still asking “how was your day?” And not getting much back, this video is for you! by @connectflowgrow

Back to school part 11

Family meetings are a great way to be intentional about connecting with your kids.

I modeled them after what I was doing at work in classrooms (restorative circles).

Our meetings gave us time to connect and for me to get a pulse on my kids.

They definitely laid the groundwork for future conversations, giving us the skills needed to communicate. by @connectflowgrow

I love a good family meeting!!!!

We started ours after the boys dad and I separated and talk about helping with a transition!

Scheduling dedicated time to check in with your kids can be really helpful for busy families. by @connectflowgrow

I love teaching tools that are portable, meaning we can use them almost anytime and any place.

Tapping is one of those tools. So in this video I shook you basic EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique).

Parents you can either have your child tap along with you (the child taps on themself) or you can tap on them.

Any tapping fans out there? by @connectflowgrow

If you need some ideas on coping skills to begin practicing with your kids I’ve provided you with some in this video.

I encourage all people to have several tools at least to help reduce the intensity of emotional experiences. This can help develop a sense of agency and increase your ability to tolerate more difficult emotions.

If you and your child are struggling with the back to school transition, try one or some of these!

Do you have any you’d like to add to this list? by @connectflowgrow

This is actually video 7 🫠

In this back to school series I’m helping you parents transition your kids back to school with less stress.

If you have not been teaching your kiddos how to calm their body, now is the time.

This is an important aspect of emotional well-being, and being a healthy individual.

In this video I share a little about coping skills.

Let me know in the comments if there are any other challenges with back to school. I’m here to help! by @connectflowgrow
