One thing that really frustrates me is when people assume a child has nothing to say just because they’re not speaking.

Our kiddos communicate in so many ways. A look, a gesture, pulling your hand, or using a device to tell you what they need.

And no, I don’t expect everyone to understand my kiddo right away.

But I do wish more people would take the time to try.

Because sometimes our kids aren’t the ones who need to change how they communicate. Sometimes we need to change how we listen.

Parents, what’s one thing your kiddo does to communicate that other people completely miss?

Of all the things we’ve done as a family, swimming with whales in Tonga is one I still can’t get over.
I mean, we were actually IN the water with whales!

Sometimes I look back at our trips and think, did we really do that? 😂

This is definitely one of those memories I’ll be talking about for years.

Three years ago, he wasn’t speaking. He’s in a classroom with neurotypical peers now, and his mom says she wouldn’t have believed you.
