There are moments when history bridges the gap between our national roots and a shared European future, placing us at the exact crossroads of where culture, diplomacy, and high-level vision meet. The exhibition dedicated to Hristo Botev’s legacy- “Hristo Botev: 150 Years of Immortality. Memory and Continuity” - at the heart of the European Parliament in Strasbourg was precisely that kind of transformative experience. Stepping into the vibrant atmosphere of Strasbourg, a city steeped in historic European importance and cross-border dialogue, set a profound tone for the evening. Within the halls of the EP, surrounded by an elite assembly of institutional leaders, diplomats, and thinkers, the scale and gravity of the event were truly palpable. The official opening of the exhibition, inaugurated by the President of Bulgaria, @iliyanaiotova , and MEP @kristian.vigenin underscored the weight of the occasion - bringing together the highest levels of state representation and European public figures to honor a monumental figure. This wasn’t merely a retrospective look at the 19th-century fire of Botev’s revolutionary verse and journalism. It was a powerful statement on how his uncompromising quest for freedom, social justice, and intellectual clarity speaks directly to the challenges of modern Europe. Botev’s pen and sword shaped our national identity, but his ideals of human dignity and relentless truth belong to the universal language of liberty that underpins a strong, visionary European Union. To be specially invited to witness this convergence of heritage, high-level diplomacy, and cultural pride was an extraordinary privilege.
