He unplugged his 20-year-old alarm system and gave up on it. The last company kept adding parts without finding the cause.

We traced the wiring and found sensors that were never connected correctly. We fixed it and kept all 20+ wired sensors, so there are no batteries to change.

The full before and after is on our Projects page, linked in our bio.

Bitsight found more than 40,000 security cameras streaming live on the internet with no password required, and more of them were in the United States than anywhere else.

A year later, Hunt.io documented one operator breaking into 14,530 Dahua devices in 35 days, mostly by trying passwords from a list until one worked.

A camera on your wall is not a secure camera until someone has configured it properly. You can schedule a security assessment through the Security Assessments link in our bio.

Building out a new space? The plans can show every camera and card reader while nobody has decided what each camera actually needs to see, or who tests the system once it's installed.

Our new article explains who should own security design and why it pays to bring them in while the drawings can still change. Tap the link in our bio and open "Who Should Be Responsible for Your Physical Security Design?"

A single operator compromised 14,530 Dahua cameras in 35 days. Researchers at Hunt.io found the campaign because the operator left their own tool directory sitting open on a public server.

Three ways in ran at once: default passwords, two firmware flaws Dahua patched back in 2021, and Dahua’s own cloud relay, which reaches a camera by serial number alone.

The backdoor account left behind survives a factory reset on most firmware. And the operator’s own target notes list Amcrest, Lorex, Annke and Swann as running on that same Dahua cloud backend beneath the rebrand.

Check what brand is on your cameras. Then check what’s underneath it. Link in bio.

Buildings run because someone is paying attention. To the property managers, facilities directors, security teams, and building staff who do that quietly, enjoy the long weekend.

Hikvision and Dahua were listed as national security risks over what their cameras could do on a network. In June the FCC closed the last import channel for older models.

Nobody has to remove anything. What changes is behind the wall. Parts and warranty swaps came through the channels that just closed, and firmware support fades on the same timeline. Once patches stop, a camera's known vulnerabilities stay open permanently.

Worth knowing what's actually on your wall, because plenty of affected cameras are sold under other brand names.

Flock cameras keep coming up, so here’s what they are and why they’re contested.

Automatic license plate recognition. Mostly solar-powered and cellular-connected. They photograph passing vehicles and log plates with time and location in a searchable database, and Flock says its Vehicle Fingerprint also reads make, model, color, and bumper stickers.

Flock reports 20 billion scans a month across 5,000+ communities. The dispute is over who can search that data. The San Francisco Standard counted 82 contracts terminated across 28 states since 2021, 39 of them in early 2026 alone.

Flock says the tech has recovered stolen vehicles and located missing people, and denies having contracts with ICE.

What do you think of them? Seen any in your area?

Type "a person has fallen in the corridor" into @avigilonofficial Unity and it builds the alert for you, across the whole site rather than one camera at a time.

The AI reading that sentence runs on a server inside the building, so the video stays on the property. We spec these systems for commercial buildings across NYC.

Your building might have cameras under the new FCC import ban without anyone knowing it.

Hikvision and Dahua both sell hardware that gets rebranded under other names, so the label on the housing often isn't the manufacturer.

You don't have to remove anything you already own. What gets harder is parts, warranty replacements, and firmware updates, which all came through the import channels that just closed.

New article on what the ban covers and how to plan a replacement. Link in bio.

Two words that get used interchangeably, and they answer different questions.

An audit is a point-in-time check. It verifies that what’s supposed to be in place is in place, working, and documented. It won’t tell you whether the program was built around the right risks.

An assessment is forward-looking. Risk-based, covering people, process, and technology, ending in prioritized recommendations for your property. The fix might have nothing to do with equipment.

Checking what you have against a standard, that’s an audit. Deciding what you should be doing, that’s an assessment. Link in bio.

@alarmdotcom moved into commercial fire.
The ADC-FC100 is a fire communicator, and the point is what it doesn’t require.

The panel stays. It works with fire alarm control panels already in the building, connecting through phone lines or relay outputs.

UL Listed, NFPA 72 compliant, and FDNY certified. Signals run over broadband and cellular, so if one path drops the other keeps reporting.

When a fire event hits, the alarm goes to the monitoring station and a notification goes to designated users in the app at the same time. Link in bio.
