POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The people that make blacken happen..
Community coming together and building a safe space for artistic expression is at the core of @theblackwreath. Was so good to see this passionate and loving community from near and far come together for last year’s festival. It’s hard enough to make these events happen in the major cities let alone in remote locations. If you grew up as an upcoming artist in a small town then you know the struggles of having bugger all places to rehearse, record and perform. It really is DIY OR DIE.

The crowdfunding campaign to secure the future of music and art in the NT is so close to completion.. but needs a final push to get over the line before it wraps up in less than 48 HOURS. Today (Black Thursday) is the last day all pledges are matched $ for $

Nearly a year ago we all made the pilgrimage into the dead centre of Australia for Blacken Open Air. A festival born out of The Black Wreath, a metal institution providing a home for artists in the desert with a live music venue, studio and record label all under its umbrella. This space means so much to the people who live in Mparntwe/Alice Springs and the broader metal/punk/rock community across the continent. Blacken is probably the most remote (and best) festival in the world attracting a loving and passionate group of people from far corners of the globe.

Right now they need your help! A crowdfunding campaign has been launched recently to raise enough funds to secure the location The Black Wreath HQ sits on… and TODAY IS BLACK THURSDAY. Every donation made today will be matched dollar for dollar (up to 50k). If they achieve their goal it will secure the future of live music in the desert and allow The Black Wreath to keep putting on incredible festivals. We don’t want to see it go into the hands of greedy developers and want to see more amazing events and a space for musicians to hone their skills for generations to come. It would seriously help if you can pick up a shirt or a ticket to their next event or maybe even become a life member!

I was lucky enough to be asked to shoot the last Blacken and here are a selection of photos to show proof of how sick this event is. Seriously the best location and curation I’ve ever seen from a festival. I hope to be back soon🤘🖤 taken in Mparntwe by @connoraskham

My Bunjalung brother @connoraskham of the Darwin/Naarm based band @tapestryau geez you’re deadly!
Thank you so much to you, Uncle Noel your dad and everyone in @tapestryau for the friendship we’ve built over the years. It’s been an absolute privilege getting to know you all, watching your journey unfold, sharing stages, conversations, laughs, and creating memories that will last a lifetime.
From the very beginning, you’ve always shown genuine support, kindness, and encouragement—not just to me, but to Chasing Ghosts as a whole. Those connections and moments we’ve shared have meant more than you’ll ever know. Whether it was at shows, on the road, or simply catching up and talking about life, every interaction has been something I’ve valued deeply.
One of the greatest gifts music has given me is the people it has brought into my life, and I’m incredibly grateful that our paths crossed. The support you’ve shown throughout the years has never gone unnoticed, and it means more than I can properly put into words.
Sending you nothing but love, gratitude, and respect, brother. Thank you for being such an important part of this journey and for all the memories we’ve created together. I’ll always be thankful for your friendship and look forward to crossing paths again down the track.
Much love always. 🖤👏❤️ by @connoraskham
