Part 1- Many restaurant photographers typically work in the controlled environment of a studio or even in a closed restaurant. However, there's nothing quite as exhilarating as setting up a makeshift studio in the middle of the mountains during a 15-course dinner, surrounded by over a dozen celebrity chefs, as the sun sets.

On a beautiful Sunday afternoon, I found myself photographing dishes as they received their final touches during the Nine Chefs, One Table Dinner, which supported the James Beard Foundation at Chef Einat Admony's home in the Catskills Mountains.

To keep my setup compact, I used a Westcott FJ200 with an Honl Photo 3-in-1 softbox—one of my secret weapons—mounted on a Manfrotto Nano stand. It was tucked between two tables, supplemented by a Honl Photo mini-V flat for fill lighting and a Viltox constant light that kicked in after sunset to maintain a natural light ambiance.

The impressive menu featured:
