The Fifth Annual Opie Open, raised over $40,000 for the 2026 Holiday Hero Fund! The Heizer family hosts this golf tournament each year to honor Opie’s legacy in such a special way. Thank you to the golfers, sponsors and donors for making this tournament the most successful one to date!

The holidays can be overwhelming for families facing a child’s cancer treatment. Funds raised will provide financial support, toys and gifts, holiday meals and experiences to local children in treatment for cancer. Thank you, Heizer Family. Thomas and Hannah’s annual tailgate brings together family and friends to honor Thomas’s late father, Tim. At the heart of the event is their love of helping children. Something Tim strongly believed in.

The 11th Annual Tailgate for Timmy raised over $33,000 for Connor’s Heroes.

Everyone had a great time with live music, a kids zone, and of course crowning this year’s Tailgate Champion! The T4T community continues to show up for children with cancer and we are so grateful for their dedication to our mission!

Ahhh, this was sweet! VCU nurses who care for the kiddos on the 12th floor 🐢 shared these pics of the team. They appreciated how Connor’s Heroes decorated the unit for September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month and Sickle Cell Awareness Month. A surprise pizza delivery (for day & night shifts) was greeted with 🙌 too! We are so lucky to work with this caring crew!

Connor’s Heroes is excited to be part of Mustaches For Kids, a fundraiser that raises money for Richmond based children’s charities by growing mustaches. We’re looking for growers! Anyone can grow, whatever your age, gender or facial hair history. If a real mustache isn’t for you, a fake one counts too! Here’s how it works:
1️⃣ Growers start November with a clean-shaven face
2️⃣ Grow a mustache of any size, shape or style
3️⃣ Invite family and friends to cheer them on by donating to a grower’s fundraising page�

🎉 Over $43,000 raised! Congratulations to the 2026 Hero Squad! 🎉
During September’s Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, each member took on the challenge of raising $1,000. Challenge accepted... and challenge EXCEEDED! 💪

This incredible squad was made up of:
💙 Parents of childhood cancer heroes
🦸 Childhood cancer heroes who completed treatment
🌆 Business owners
🩵 Volunteers inspired to give back
🧑‍⚕️ Pediatric nurses who care for families in the hospital

Last night we celebrated 20 years of Connor’s Heroes at our BBQ Bash at @zzqrva and honored the 2026 Hero Squad. Nine more families registered with Connor’s Heroes in September. The money raised by the hero squad will give them a Heroes Bag Backpack, an iPad, $250 Visa gift card, and so much more. taken in ZZQ by @connorsheroes

For more than 10 years, local artist and Connor’s Heroes volunteer @frankieslaughter has brought her passion for art to children with cancer and their families through Heroes Art Sessions.

From painting and sewing to clay and pastels, Frankie does it all. One of our favorite collaborative pieces she helped create is the giant turtle collage that hangs proudly in the Connor’s Heroes Family Room on the 12th floor at @childrensatvcu

“I truly believe we are all creative beings,” Frankie shares. “Just sitting and making art allows us to quiet the outside world.”

We’re grateful for volunteers like Frankie who use their talents to bring hope, creativity, and meaningful moments to our families. 💙

Thank you to our amazing donors who came to our annual Circle Of Heroes reception. The Circle Of Heroes is made up of the generous people who give at our leadership level.

It was our honor to have Tecumseh’s parents, Samantha and Erick, talk about how the Circle Of Heroes helped their family. They emphasized how important the personalized touches and the way we got to know the entire family meant the most during their son’s treatment. Tecumseh recently rang the bell after being in treatment for over 3 years.

And Connor’s Heroes was there, every step of the way.

Every child’s cancer journey looks different from family to family. So should the support they receive. For hero parents Jonathan and Jen, their family received something they never would have asked for:

❝Jillian offered to schedule a free house cleaning. It was so far down my list to even think about. But, it was such a boost to have someone proactively address a need right at the perfect time.❞

Thanks to your generosity (and our partnership with Maid Brigade), their house was cleaned in preparation for their daughter Aina’s return home from the hospital. Another example of how you let us meet each hero family exactly where they are, with support that fits their needs.
