Vlog action in Waikiki with @kai_lenny & @jackfromtown !!! So cool seeing these guys rip and get barreled on longboards. Great vibes all around and am especially stoked over the double angle with @ryanjohnson.mov Itā€™s been fun working with Kai trying to find help him with his videos especially because you just never know what heā€™s going to do on the board! Is he going to hang ten, helicopter, ride switch, do a back flip, ride the surf mat or what!? Getting engaged fully took us back through memory lane. Hereā€™s a collection of a few of our favorite moments. A true millennial postā€¦. A digital scrap book if you will haha! Luckily we had a @gopro 3 with no screen with us on our first date to capture it which is so cool looking back on. We met on my recruiting trip to @hawaii_swimdive and then a couple of years later ended up bonding over our shared love for dogs at a swim house party which has now led us to having Leo (our dog) together! The first few years of our relationship felt like non stop island adventures and trying to figure out how to use a camera. It was before all of these YouTube tutorials existed, Instagram photos were squares and nobody shared their process + pre-geotagging ao we just had to get out there, send it and hope for the best! So many shenanigans and learned so much with a lot of great memories during this era. After college we decided to backpack Europe for nearly 3 months and it was the best worst decision we ever made. So poor and so difficult with the ups and downs of traveling sick + poor, but was extremely eye opening and a truly life changing experience. Especially that pizza in Pomepei that we still dream about. When we talk about our best day ever, we often bring up this day in Zermatt where we unintentionally bar crawled down the mountain with the most epic views ever and the best vibes, thereā€™s something so much fun about an unplanned spontaneous adventure day because you just take it for what it is vs. having high expectations and this day was top tier vibes. The animals that changed our lives for the best. We only got Leo because he and I have the same birthday and @taylorditty said it was a sign, because I was definitely not ready for that responsibility. I was trying to Peter Pan and spend my summers surfing in Bali, but I donā€™t regret Leo at all and am so happy we got him! The rest are a collection of misc. moments from the world like swimming with whale sharks, humpbacks, orcas and traveling all over the world! Weā€™re getting married. šŸ¤ I wanted to make Taylorā€™s fairytale dreams come true on her dream trip to the South of France, and I couldnā€™t have imagined a more perfect place to ask her to marry me than Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. Iā€™d put a lot of thought into pulling the morning together, from sneaking the ring in my pants, to hiring a photographer on the other side of the world and there only being one shoot/proposal allowed on property per day, shakily putting my camera down and recording video to try and line up perfectly to trying to remember to put the correct knee down. Even after all of these years I was still so nervous. Once she said yes, I could finally stop worrying about the plan and just enjoy it with her. We spent the rest of the morning walking around the gardens, taking photos and soaking it all in. We kept it a secret for a bit to just enjoy some champagne and chill for the remaining few days of the trip/ The ring became a little collection of pieces of us which was really fun to make for @taylorditty ! WeI went ring shopping together in HawaiŹ»i, and on the drive home she mentioned wanting some kind of water element incorporated into it. The ā€œCā€ in my signature has always looked like a wave, and it ended up blending perfectly into the floral engraving she already loved. Inside, I had it engraved with ā€œI love you furever and everā€ an inside joke going all the way back to the beginning of our relationship, when Taylor told me we could never get married because I wasnā€™t a cat guy. Jokeā€™s on her. See slide 20. šŸ˜‚ And then thereā€™s one detail that is hilarious to me. Our cat is named Azure, which is blue in French and inspired by the CoĢ‚te dā€™Azur because of the color of her eyes, the same place where, all these years later, we ended up getting engaged. We kept joking the whole trip how much we loved the Cote Dā€™Azuzu haha. There were a lot of little details and Easter eggs I wanted to work into the day and the ring, but ultimately I just wanted to make the whole thing feel like Taylor. A DREAM COME TRUE šŸŒ‹ So excited to cross this off the bucket list and see Episode 51 of Kilauea! You know that genuine stoked feeling you feel as a kid seeing something for the first time, thatā€™s the feeling today 100%!!! Canā€™t believe how lucky I got being here for a work trip and I start documenting @23toptraining world record attempt tonight at midnight, but the volcano erupted perfectly in a time for us to go experience it! Iā€™ve almost pulled the trigger so many times on flying to see it, but they donā€™t last long and are easy to miss. Todayā€™s only lasted 8 hours and I just happened to be here, so I am just grateful it lined up. The power, the rumbling sound, colors and ambiance of Pele were unbelievable. Lava fountains reaching 950 ft. And 6.6 billion cubic yards of lava made its way to the crater floor. One of my favorite shoots from this past year working for @marriottbonvoy x @jacob.media non stop in the water! Iā€™ve been pulling inspo for upcoming shoots although AI has gotten better, thereā€™s so much slop out there. Itā€™s crazy over on Pinterest and Google Images where I used to pull mood board frames from. It feels like itā€™s 80% generated images. At the end of the day, you canā€™t beat a great photo. One that captures the energy, environment and conveys a feeling. Great, authentic photography is still the cornerstone for creative. It genuinely warms my heart knowing Iā€™m not alone in this feeling. But it had me thinking back to this shoot where I felt like the imagery really conveyed the feeling & it definitely helps that I was with the best crew @nainoalanger @moliverallen @jacob @tantago @alydemo @seanvaldivieso @londongirlindc šŸ™ŒšŸ¼ taken in Maui, Hawaii by @connortrimble

A moment to take it all in. *NOT AI Trying to capture a new perspective of something Iā€™ve seen probably over 100x. Waikiki fireworks from the surf under a full moon. I knew this was toward the end of the firework show and the waves werenā€™t cooperating with us lining up a really good surf shot with the fireworks behind. @naiwatelson had just fallen right in front of me and I asked him to just sit on his board and take it in and it ended up being my favorite shot of the night! So epic and canā€™t wait to shoot it again after having learned a lot from the experience. I made a raw YouTube video from the session thatā€™s super mellow and chill if you want to check it out. Nothing breaks my heart more than having footage sit on a drive after putting to much time and effort in to capture it so Iā€™m trying this format out to see if itā€™s worth making more little vlogs like this that are really simple and in chronological order. Surfing under the full moon & Friday night fireworks in Waikiki, Hawaiā€™i. Every Friday thereā€™s fireworks here and I got the call from @malae_mcelheny & @jackfromtown that they were surfing it because good 2-3 ft. swell + full moon + fireworks + everyone being available donā€™t line up often so we sent it! Mainly I just shot video because itā€™s easier to let in more light filming vs. shooting stills, but for the few minutes I flipped to stills I still canā€™t believe I lined this first shot up. Iā€™m blown away at how bright the moon was this evening was stoked over lining up with Jack. These are the nights I usually donā€™t do much with the footage or maybe Iā€™ll cut 2-3 reels from it and ā€œmaybeā€ post one of them. So I decided to make more of a RAW YouTube video from it thatā€™s just a chronological recap of the evening session. Itā€™s a little different style than Iā€™ve ever tried before so let me know if you dig it. For me, it feels more like a digital diary of footage from a cool evening linking up with friends in the water. Also for my video people out there, this is my first full video transitioning from Premiere to Davinci. Late season bump in swell gave @casualluke and I a chance to link up for @vaeradventure watches. The amount of shoots Iā€™ve done for surf brands in crappy waves with some of the best surfers on the planet is agonizing. It sucks not being able to highlight surfers in the best conditions, so I was really excited that we could get just a hand full of Hero shots in proper waves this morning highlighting Luke doing what he does best. Nothing beats getting out there and lining up with a surfer. You spend hours prepping gear, driving, swimming, putting yourself in the exact right place for a fraction of a second and then edit. One small adjustment while swimming or getting in a few minutes earlier or staying just that little bit longer can completely change everything. Itā€™s the most frustrating, yet rewarding feeling in the world. Nothing beats when it all lines up. Maybe Iā€™m biased, but the human aspect and connection will never be replaceable. Going back through some of my favorite work bringing up all of the memories. Shout out to Ross for trusting the vision when we were losing light and asked if sheā€™d be down to lay in a tide pool haha. It was a ridiculous scene with her holding my ankle so she didnā€™t float around after a really long day of shooting already. Foiling with friends // One of my favorite parts of shooting in the water is how psyched everyone gets to line up a shot, especially with friends!
