POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Identity design, and a look at the process, for the 10th edition of the East Asia Film Festival Ireland from last semester.

The identity spans across, print, web, screen and outdoor advertising, built around the visual language of film strips, sequence and movement.

The printed programme uses a double parallel fold which allows the information to unfold sequentially across four panels, the right most panel contains the screening, time and film information for quick reading.

The programme along with the postcards, and a test poster were printed digitally then spot finished with fluro pink using the Risograph. The spot of fluorescent pink contrasts and blends over imagery, while the variation of print texture from the Risograph process reinforces a sense of movement and imperfection across the identity.

The back of the postcards were designed from the Riso makeready test sheet, which accumulated layers of different text and information from the testers. by @conorsdesign

‘To the Makers of The Future’

Collaboration between @ch2stian / @ohrcia and myself, a response to the <SEND> project, a one week vertical teaching project for years 1-4 of Visual Communication @tudublin_artanddesign currently on display in the East Quad of TU Dublin.

Our box and its contents are addressed to visual communication students of 2046.

Box:

Hand cut, scored and glued greyboard box with sliding lid, 312 x 225 x 40mm.

Contents:

- A Letter to future students (A4)
- The New Media Envoirnment (Booklet)
- In Search Of Babel (Transparent Booklet)
- Leporello of Instagram Stories (approx 1.63m x 15cm)
- Six Printed Images With Captions

We have more information at our fingertips than ever before, yet the future seems increasingly uncertain. Through a collection of texts (Marshal McLuhan, Jorge Luis Borges, Chris Haughton), images and fragments captured from our present media environment, the box attempts to document how we communicate with and experience the world in 2026.

As the world and our dominant channels and methods of communication keep changing at an ever increasing pace, we hope the recipients will remain curious and critical, continuing to question technologies, systems, and channels that shape our perception and reading of how we experience the world. by @conorsdesign

New @also_editions arrived in the post yesterday, ‘Always Travelling on Old Roads’ by the legend @grahamwood7

An energetic collision of texts, images, photography and textures, the book feels particularly resonant in a year which marks 35 years since the founding of Tomato.

Tomato’s work has had a massive influence on me since having started my studies in TU Dublin, having now collected many tomato and adjacent publications. In a world which seems increasingly full of AI and generic design, their work has never felt more relevant.

Highly encourage you to check out @departmentofsomethings by both Graham & @tweed_head and @also_editions coordinated by @peterwmaybury which has some more upcoming publications.

Held a workshop in @tudublin_artanddesign yesterday on formgiving.

We started with a presentation on the etymology of the word which derives from a Danish word for design ‘formgivning’ and the German word ‘formgebung’ which is associated with Rat für Formgebung — Council for Form-Giving, now the German design council, founded in Darmstadt.

This was followed by the works of the prolific German artist Joseph Beuys (Thinking Is Form, The Drawings of Joseph Beuys), and works from Jannis Kounellis and Giuseppe Penone of Italian Arte Povera movement of the 60/70s.

Following the presentation we responded to a series of situations using any media and tools available, oil, wood, charcoal, chalk, stone, brick, acrylic, ink, paper, rollers, brushes, body, space.

By the end of the workshop, our responses had given form to a collective map of our intuitive process.

The response to the workshop has been really encouraging, I’d definitely like to develop the idea further and do more workshops in the future!

Thanks to @peterwmaybury for stopping by and taking photographs of work in process. by @conorsdesign
