Finding inspiration in the little things again.

I've always loved poetry, and getting into spoken word was something outside of my comfort zone,
but people took really well to my voice and narratives.

For years, I thought about what that could look like coupled with my cinematic work. Being back in Charleston and really taking in the way the city has evolved, but foundationally, has remain rooted and grounded in the rich history of our people is a resilience that I've naturally worked into my films, and it's shaped the way I capture everything: the people, the place, the magic of the story unfolding.

This is just a spec for something larger in my head, but figured I'd share anyway.

I'm nothing without the grounding of my community, the freedom of creativity, and His gifts.

Words alone can't simply describe the feeling, but if it did, it would go something along the lines of this:

My heart is so full.
"What I Wish I Knew" started as a question to self about all the things I wish I knew in my early creative years.

Now, it stands as a bold declaration to pass along wisdom I've gained from all of my trials.
To do something differently than I've ever done.
To embrace the new, the challenging, the larger than life triumphs.

I'm deeply grateful for all of the support given to me on this journey of turning a question into a workshop that pours into those who have a creative side but desire more real life experiences in the field.

I'm honored to have had the most amazing support team, as well supporters, sponsors and family show up and show out at every turn to make sure I had everything I needed to make this experience a success.

The What I Wish I Knew: Visual Storytelling Workshop concludes with an open invitation to the community, open mic style.

Join us in Historic Georgetown, SC for a live community storytelling experience centered around honesty, reflection, spoken word, and the lessons life teaches us along the way. We’re bringing people together for a night of open mic storytelling, connection, local vendors, food, and meaningful conversation. No matter your title, or whether you consider yourself a creative, your story has the spotlight.

You can join us on Friday, May 22 from 6pm - 8pm at the Georgetown County Public Library. This is your night to have the red carpet spotlight, so come dressed to impress. Whether you take the mic, or simply come to witness in the audience, your presence matters.

It's an impromptu #throwbackThursday and announcement post all in one 😅✨

It's time to hear your story.

You're invited to hop on the mic as we reflect on the things we wish we knew that could help someone in the room.

The What I Wish I Knew Visual Storytelling Workshop will end with a special presentation of work produced by our student participant, along with an opportunity to spotlight willing participants in real time as they continue the conversation open mic style. Whether you just want to share your thoughts, a poetic word, or even a song that taught you something about life, this is the moment to leave it on the mic.

Open mics changed my life growing up as I was able to express myself through poetry and spoken word. The first photo is from an open mic night at my alma mater @uofsc. So grateful for how that experience shaped my creativity now. I hope you will attend. The event will be filmed, so dress to impress!

One week into my birthday month and one week after my first visual storytelling workshop and I'm just completely filled with gratitude.

"What I Wish I Knew" was an idea before it became a reality. It was a way for me to make my dream of giving back to the community that first sparked my love of creativity into a reality.

So grateful for the experience of curating and producing a first of a kind workshop geared towards pouring into rising creatives through communal storytelling and hands on learning. The idea was to bring to life things I wish I had when I first became a creative. Though my journey wasn't a linear path, it was a necessary push into showing me myself, my passion for storytelling, and bringing me around community who have become my family.

As the classroom experience comes to a close for part 1 of the What I Wish I Knew Workshop, I'm eagerly excited for what lies ahead on this journey.

We weren’t just there to host or film… we were there to experience it.
