Detective’s Log
Case File: 005
April 11, 3:27, morning—

I walk this night alone, the shadows creep in from the corners of my eyes, clawing, as they often do. These patrols take their toll on any Joe... or dame for that matter.

That’s when the event transpired. The Thief met my glare, but as I’d find, he’d been the one stalking me. Watching me, a cat to a mouse. Didn’t rattle me none... so I thought.

“Time is ticking, detective... You can still save her.”

He taunts me, trying to shake me with some doll’s safety. A thief being the one to confront a flatfoot—queer. Even has the gall to shine some mirror in my face.

“Then where is she, thief?”

I give him a wallop, we tussle, I clock him. POW! We kick up the dust, and in the confusion, I take a shiner to the eye... I throw him to the wall. Mirror shatters. Big mouth.

He huffs, slunk on the wall, “You still don’t get it do you? You even hit like a girl...” He clocks me. I let it get to me.

“Get out of my head, heel.”

“You blockhead,” he spits out like his missing tooth.
“You’re just robbing yourself.”

Case remains open.

Tomorrow is the last day to see my piece, “The Last Brunch” on display at the @johnwaldronartscenter in Bloomington, Indiana!

This piece is located on the bottom floor of the Waldron as a part of the larger “Steamroller Big Show”. The exhibit features large scale prints from the 2025 and 2026 Mini Midwest Print Fest.

All of the prints, including mine, were carved from huge relief blocks, mine nearly 7 feet in length, and then they were printed by running a steam roller over the blocks with fabric. 🚜

As I said in the last post, huge thank you to @raegressley from @hideoutpress for organizing the print fests, for putting this show on, and helping me hem my work for display. Thank you too to @liv.prproj for helping me document my work.

After a year in storage, my piece, “The Last Brunch” is on display for the first time! And what better place than the @johnwaldronartscenter in Bloomington, Indiana?

My sculptures are on view at the Fountain Square mall in Bloomington, IN until the end of July!

Can you help the detective solve the case and fight the dastardly thief? 🔎

So thankful for the opportunity from @fountainsquarebloomington and @cfc_properties ! The beautiful bricks and flowery metalwork give my cartoon sculptures a perfect backdrop. While sitting around with them, I noticed many people walking over to pose with them for photos 🥹 so happy to have it resonate with people. Please tag me if you take a photo with them! Would love to see!!

The Red Herring

Detective’s Log
Case File: 006
February 26, 5:30 evening—

In the office as usual, but the damn wire won’t stop bleating. I’ve got plenty on my plate and nothings clear. I look through my cases, file after file, lead after lead—dead.

Nuts…

Place a mess now with papers crumpled and thrown across the carpet. The city’s toils feel insurmountable, can’t even think… it rings in my ears.

That damn bleating! I pick up the phone and let the poor sap on the other end have it—

“What do you want! I’m chasing my own tail here! I’m not taking on anymore cases.”

Then nothing. Phone was silent… But a two-packs-a-day rasp came from behind me.

“You dumb bass.”

I turn, spooked, and drop the phone. All that’s facing me is a fish mounted on my wall… and the rasp continued through its gills.

“Listen to your heart,” it said as smooth as rust.

And by God—I sound off my rocker—I hear the bleating again, but it turned to beating.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

I look down. I see the shirt that covers me, the tie round my collar, moving in rhythm.

Thump. Thump. Thump.

I’ve got a lead.

Case remains open.
