We empower adults to create safe, connected, problem-solving schools & homes. #iHeartCD

A dysregulated child feels like they have no control. Using simple choices during the regulation process can give back a healthy sense of control. Step four of the Five Steps to Self-Regulation is I Choose: offering a small, appropriate choice once the nervous system has settled and the feeling has been embraced. “What would help you now - the squeeze ball, draw a picture or a caring connection?” It’s not a reward and it’s not a negotiation. It’s a way of handing agency back to the child through choices which empowers the brain to be ready to solve problems. by @consciousdiscipline

Lasting change in a school begins with the adults who lead it. And those leaders rarely get the time or space to invest in their own growth.

On November 19–20 in Oklahoma, join us for Conscious Discipline Coaching: A New Model for Practice and Mindset Shifts. It’s a two-day workshop for school leaders, instructional coaches and mentors.

You’ll leave with fresh tools for leading through connection, commitment and reflective coaching, plus the steadiness to bring them back to the people around you. Register today at the link in bio. by @consciousdiscipline

Still smiling from Elevate 2026!

Two weeks later and we’re still feeling the energy of a room full of educators learning, growing, and connecting together.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make it such a transformative week. Here’s to the next 30 years of building connected, compassionate spaces where everyone belongs!

When a group moves and speaks in sync, the brain reads it as safety and belonging, and a room of scattered individuals starts to feel like a team. It works the same way at morning meeting, at a staff huddle, or at the family dinner table. Thirty seconds of "us" makes the next hour of learning a lot easier. by @consciousdiscipline

To every Head Start leader building connected, caring classrooms: thank you. Your work shapes the brains, hearts, and futures of the children in your care, and that is nothing short of amazing.

"That's not going to work with our kids" was the honest starting point. Not full buy-in, just a willingness to try the pieces that felt doable: the breathing, offering two positive choices and using encouraging language like “You Can Do It” instead of judgmental language like “Good Job”. And it worked, fast enough to be surprising.

Growing up without anyone modeling self-regulation means you don't just teach it to your kids, you're learning to give yourself something you never had. Now it's showing up in the classroom too, with a room full of students. by @consciousdiscipline

Halloween week brings costumes, class parties, sugar and a schedule that’s anything but normal. All that excitement is fun, but for young brains it can quickly tip into overwhelm.

Calm is a skill, and the right tools make it easier to practice when energy runs high:

-The Stress S.T.A.R. and S.T.A.R. Breathing Tool give children something to hold while they Smile, Take a deep breath, And Relax.

-The Safe Place Mat bring the S.T.A.R., Balloon, Pretzel and Drain breathing strategies to life in your Safe Place.

-I Can Calm and Feeling Faces Sticker Sheets help children name what they’re feeling, which is the first step to calming down.

A few deep breaths can turn a wild moment into a teachable one. Explore calming tools for your classroom at the link in our bio. by @consciousdiscipline

At a Migrant Head Start program in El Centro, California, children were responding to the instability of farmworker life with aggression and withdrawal. The team didn’t start with the kids. They started with the teachers. Then they added small daily rituals: deep breathing, greetings, goodbyes. Classrooms using Conscious Discipline saw those stress behaviors ease, and the work reached families at home too.

That’s the heart of an adult-first approach. A regulated adult is a child’s best teacher. When staff can stay calm in the middle of conflict, they can teach children to do the same. by @consciousdiscipline

When a classroom tips into chaos, the instinct is to regain control fast, and often that means removing the child at the center of it. It might quiet the room for a minute, but it rarely changes what happens next time.

Join us in Oklahoma City on November 17–18 for Safer Schools and Stronger Behavior Systems. You’ll learn how to de-escalate hard moments through connection, not isolation. That means reading brain states quickly, using clear structures that keep everyone feeling safe, calming your own nervous system first, and letting your classroom community help carry the load.

Through the Conscious Discipline Introduction Series, Arkansas State reached more than 7,000 educators statewide over the last 15 years; one of the most scaled implementations on record of Conscious Discipline in the country. The results, while still coming in, continue to point to something bigger than an isolated professional development training!

Conscious Discipline gives everyone life skills. Whether you’re the teacher, the administrator, the child, or the parent, these are skills you use in the classroom, out of the classroom, in your family, on a trip to the grocery store…everywhere. by @consciousdiscipline
