A few days ago, I got married. I was living with François for more than 20 years. Over the past two years, we have gone through some difficult times but life is here! We decided to get married to enjoy it even more 🌞
It was a great décision : On the 5th of september we experienced an explosion of love with our close family and wounderful wittnesses , and it’s just the beginning!

Marc Held, that brilliant designer, was self-taught. A physical education teacher, he took drama classes at the TNP under the guidance of Bob Wilson, before going on to run a mail-order business. It was this unconventional background that gave him the freedom to open his own shop, L’Échoppe, at 51 Rue de Seine in Paris in 1965, together with his wife Marianne: a showcase to display and promote his creations in a modern setting. They lived on Rue Oberkampf, in a house built by Held on the site of a former warehouse. Their tastes leaned mainly towards Scandinavian and German designers. At L’Échoppe, they sold tableware; there is too little space to display furniture. That same year, 1965, Florence Knoll and Yves Vidal, director of Knoll International France, discovered the prototype of the Culbuto armchair there. They purchased the model, which would lead to a Knoll range comprising a whole family of moulded fibreglass chairs: a large armchair, a small armchair and a stool. After the war, Hans Knoll had come up with the idea of proposing to the State Department a range of furniture to be sent abroad alongside Marshall Plan personnel. Knoll established a presence in Germany and France, and Knoll International was founded in 1951. The parisian shop, rue de l’Abbaye, was a revelation! The novelty lay not only in the furniture but also in the way it was styled. Florence Knoll designed the shop with gravel floors and colourfully painted ceilings. She dared to create unimaginable colour combinations, such as blue and green or red and orange. Even the bouquets of flowers were innovative: instead of traditional large bouquets, smaller, round bouquets were displayed, a style that would quickly catch on. Apart from Pierre Jeanneret, Marc Held was the only Frenchman to collaborate with Knoll, whose creativity was also evident in advertising campaigns, such as that for the Culbuto: a photograph of Marc Held in his studio, sculpting the mould for the seat.
RIP Marc, and all my thoughts to his daughter Ingrid.

The vase, one of the earliest containers to exist across all societies and géographies, is an object that connects nature to the home. It is an object that serves a function, of course, but one whose requirements allow for the greatest freedom. So designers have had a field day, imagining shapes to hold wilted petals (@SylvainDubuisson ´s *Lettera Amorosa*), structures to arrange bouquets (#AndreaBranzi ´s Thousand of vases), floor-standing sculptures (@atelierpierrecharpin ´s colorful compositions created at CIRVA), and forms that take pride of place on a mantelpiece… such as this vase by @harrynuriev —one of the latest acquisitions in the maddbordeaux collection—made from the most humble of materials with a simple gesture, its immediacy serving the flowers.
A display of vases at the entrance to maddbordeaux, bridging the gap between the decorative arts—on display at the Hôtel de Lalande—and design, presented in the former prison.

Who recognizes this man? Discovered during the works, numerous graffiti were found in the basements of the maddbordeaux, dating from between 1941 and 1944.

In May 1940, the French collapse began. People fled Paris, which was about to be invaded. Many ended up in Bordeaux, where the government of Paul Reynaud retreated. Reynaud resigned on June 17th, giving way to Marshal Pétain, who would sign the armistice. My grandmother’s sister, Suzanne Torrès, was among those who refused to accept the cessation of hostilities. On June 20th, in her Red Cross uniform, she boarded Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s Farman aircraft at Mérignac airfield, bound for Oran, Algeria. From there, she went to Spain, Brazil, and finally New York, where she gathered the women who would be known as Les Rochambelles, accompanying General Leclerc’s 2nd Armored Division.

We do not know the details or reasons for the detentions related to the graffiti found at the madd, except for the communist prisoners recounted in « Bordeaux1940-1944 » by René Terrisse.

Christian Dior was superstitious. He loved this lucky charm, the lily of the valley. And what he loved most of all was to slip a sprig of it into the hem of his dresses.
