I’ve been contemplating the right time to post this, but I couldn’t find the right “time.” Why the right time? I want to make sure this isn’t seen as a marketing ploy. I understand some followers know me well, some know me a little, and some know me not at all. My drive has always been advocacy and community. We are watching in real time, women being oppressed and silenced in so many different ways. I may not know a lot, but I do know for certain that so many women are contributing positively to this world. Big and small. ACHIAA wants to spotlight those women by sharing their stories and some goodies, in partnership with other brands that share the same values and celebrate women doing the “good work.” Be on the lookout for ways to nominate any women you know who are positively impacting their community, in any capacity. I knew my first line NEEDED a Black Blazer. Because everyone needs 1 good Black blazer. Black Eyed Susan is sharp, feminine, she stands out. Testing out our first letter. Sorry couldn’t stay away from the Basketball reference. I think I’m mourning the retirement of the players I grew up on. Russell (Brodie) Westbrook ugh I wasn’t ready for that one. A LETTER FROM THE HOUSE: think I’ve been somewhat transparent about my journey as a Founder & CEO (I actually cringe every time I write CEO. It feels awkward). Yet, here I am. My vision was to separate the two. Keep Constance very different from ACHIAA. I get to keep my private, quiet life. I constantly felt like I was colliding with a brick wall. Thus, ACHIAA has been authentic to the brand ethos. In reality, I, Constance, was struggling; it was no longer fun, and I dreaded creating for ACHIAA. Not because I stopped loving her, but I was forcefully hiding what birthed her. ACHIAA was never meant to be a Fashion brand simply for garments. But a stepping stone to be a waypaver and a shifter. Provoking meaningful dialogue, creating a safe space, and amplifying silenced stories. It sounds a bit hefty, unrealistic, borderline delusional, and maybe too much for a small clothing line by this random girl who gets shy in big spaces. That’s all valid if you haven’t met me, and my God. I was never the best writer in school, but writing is my complete joy. I could blame my younger obsession with television: Moesha and her Diary, or Carrie Bradshaw, the columnist. I think my high school English teacher (I’ll tag her lol) would agree that I love the art of writing, but speaking my mind with transparency was possibly my gift. I decided to stop forcefully separating the two. Welcome to “Letter from the House,” a space where I can intertwine the things on my mind, in connection to the women of ACHIAA. Hey, the letter may not always even come from me. Warning: My mind is all over the place lol. I am excited to write my love notes to you all. I hope you are excited to receive it.
