There’s something fascinating about art that says so much with so little.

Robert Indiana’s LOVE is instantly recognizable, but its simplicity is exactly what makes it so powerful, a reminder that sometimes the strongest statement in a space is the simplest one.

As designers, we’re always drawn to work that can create a feeling before you’ve even had time to understand why.

Start with a line.

Then another.

That’s often where the work of design happens, not in any one element, but in the relationship between them.

The details don’t just fill a space. They shape how it feels.

A space doesn’t always reveal itself all at once.

Sometimes it begins with a curve, a color, or a piece you didn’t quite expect. Then another layer enters the conversation, texture, pattern, something vintage, something sculptural, until everything starts to feel like it belongs.

Unexpected details keep it interesting. And in the end, every piece finds its place.

That’s when a space starts to feel less designed, and more lived in.

The “translation” story
There’s a moment in every project when the designer says something completely innocent…

And the client hears something completely different.

“Let’s keep it simple.”
“Let’s explore another option.”
“I think we’re done.”

None of these sentences mean what you think they mean.

Because behind every “simple” room is a conversation about proportions, materials, lighting, texture, color, and approximately 47 decisions nobody will ever notice.

It’s funny what you notice after the first impression wears off.

The texture of the upholstery. The movement in the stone. The repetition in the woven chairs. The way the colors keep finding their way from one piece to the next.

These aren’t the things you necessarily notice first. They’re the things that make you want to look again.

And often, that’s where the design gets interesting.

Sometimes, a space already has a language of its own.
The question is whether it still reflects where you want it to go.

For this existing client, the goal was to move away from the more traditional elements and create a fresher, more contemporary feel.

We focused on a few key pieces, new chairs, a new rug, and a new wallcovering, each chosen to shift the balance of the room without erasing what was already working.

The result wasn’t a complete reinvention.
It was a new voice for a space that already had one.
