Results are directly related to preparation. Poor preparation almost guarantees disappointment. Being ready is the most important thing you can do as an athlete. Being confident from your preparation increases probability of success. Everything is developed through relentless preparation. So if you want to be confident, ready & succeed, prepare properly! It’s as simple as that.

“Grit is not just simple elbow-grease term for rugged persistence. It is an often invisible display of endurance that lets you stay in an uncomfortable place, work hard to improve upon a given interest, and do it again and again.”

- Sarah Lewis

“Grit is the grain of character. It may generally be described as heroism materialized, spirit and will thrust into heart, brain, and backbone, so as to form part of the physical substance of the man.”

- Edwin Percy Whipple

“Being a top performer – whether it’s in business or on the athletic field – requires grit and tenacity, as well as the continuous desire to become better.”

- Amy Morin

“Grit is picking yourself up and moving forward even when you think you can’t take one more step.”

7yo Mia running solo this morning while her regular little training mates, including sis, are busy w/ final phase of tryouts.

Every week she comes in 9am Sundays & is put through very heavy, monotonous fundamental training. Nothing fancy at this age. Focus is on building her foundations.

We’re working on rhythm & coordination w/ movement w/ the ball. The goal is to improve control of her body/feet in tandem w/ the rock. It may not look like much but It’s taken alot of work & detail to get her looking this clean. She’s a sponge, takes it all in & retains the teachings. Communicates well, is smart, resilient & is really developing her growth mindset. Enthusiastic to boot. What more could you ask for ❤️ Great traits for an athlete. Soon it will be her time too to tryout. In the meantime plenty of work to be done.

Always happy to get them this early. Takes a lot of patience but i get the opportunity to properly build them from the ground up & teach them positive habits for long term development.

Trials season is when you step up the work to prepare for what tryouts will throw at you. It’s about sacrificing & commitment to earn your spot & what you’re willing to do to earn the team you want. You’re always going to be nervous. It comes w/ the territory. But the work you do helps to prepare you mentally. It’s also about the work you’ve done throughout the season that’s kept you sharp & ready to perform. It’s not like suddenly you lock in just because tryouts are coming. You should’ve been locked in all the time!

The universe mirrors your energy. If you’ve sacrificed, committed & endured to try attain your goals the universe will reward you w/ what you earned & worked for not what you think you deserve.

I’ve restricted the 3 as kids this age don’t have the power to shoot w/ proper form. They end up ruining their shot & develop negative habits. Consistency is key in shooting in not only makes but mechanics. If the shot changes too much the benefits do not out way the risks. There will be too many issues to address as they get older. This is not a problem i want to have. Always looking for long term development rather than short term satisfaction.

I rewarded his consistency, in both mechanics & makes, by advancing his range as he finished the season again top of FT’s & has been reasonably efficient w/ his jumpshot throughout both rep & domestic. We make sure we can trust the form to extend range. He stayed consistent enough to be able to take it all the way to the arc where the form maintained for the most part & so we could stay there.

Very happy w/ this progression. We never cheated the process to rush development. I’ve sharpened & fine tuned my teachings over time to help improve his touch & mechanics. In GF’s he was able to apply his work & drain a well needed timely 3. Hard work always pays off. We keep building.

Mistakes provide information on what you’re doing incorrectly so you’re able to have an understanding of what to fix & how you correct it. It’s data you use to help make the right adjustments. These adjustments help make you smarter w/ execution. So rather than dwelling on & reacting to missis & mistakes you respond instead w/ the necessary adjustments. This is how you improve. This process is difficult for some. The more you practice this positive response the better you are at persevering through failure & the more you develop as a player. You simply don’t succeed w/out making mistakes. It’s always Failure before Mastery.

Young man is continuing to grind through obstacles, bad games, challenging trainings etc. This is the journey of development. It’s not going to always be rainbows & sunshine. Nothing worth having comes easy. You endure, stay disciplined & stay tough - This is what sports is all about. He perseveres well so able to continue to improve his shooting regularly. He is a shooter just like big bro before him.

“Don’t judge yourself as a coach by how well you work with the best & most advanced athletes. Judge yourself by how you DEVELOP AND RETAIN newer & inexperienced athletes.” - unknown

Evaluating a coach’s true capability depends on how they develop struggling performers rather than managing elite, self-motivated top performers and being able to keep them patient with the process & coming back. by @constant3levation

Everything we do is built on top of a foundation of fundamentals. Footwork, balance, stability, posture, handles. Understanding centre of gravity, cadence, rhythm & learning to move efficiently & effectively w/ the ball. Basketball is like a dance. Coordination/footwork is key to movement while in control of both your body & the ball.

The process of training helps build character as kids learn important values through the journey of skills improvement. When a player embraces challenges, understands sacrifice, discipline, discomfort & the enduring of pain they develop inner strength & confidence through the work they do. With self improvements through resilience, perseverance, persistence, patience & problem solving - this process helps build a growth mindset & develops self efficacy. All leads to strong foundations of character which can support young athletes both in sports and throughout life 🙏🏽

Seen all these posts how the old way of training are now obsolete & no longer works. Recent being using cones are useless. Although i can understand where these contents are coming frm but i don’t subscribe to this way of thinking. There’s a use, purpose & reason for everything & as far as im concerned using training aids will always be important in skills development. We evolve, we adjust as trainers but some good old fashioned things will forever be a staple & essential. by @constant3levation
