Sunday October 18! Join us in a special book warming celebration by The Huntington.

Could a book about books in a library be cool? (YES!)

You’re invited to a bookwarming for Worlds Unfolding: Science on the Page, a new publication by The Huntington in association with Princeton University Press.

It’s a book that’s technically five books about science and art and libraries and this wild spinning rock we’re all riding together through space and time. It was a complex puzzle to create, and this evening will celebrate the many hands and minds that brought Worlds Unfolding to life.

The program features a panel discussion with the book’s creative team who shaped its format and design, art photography, and color printing. The conversation will highlight how this densely illustrated boxed set was designed to be a tactile and luminous adventure, and how unconventional object photography played a central role in translating the library experience onto the page.

After the discussion, the PRS library will open for guests to see PRS’s own collection items that rhyme and resonate with Worlds Unfolding.

Copies of the book will be available for purchase in the PRS bookshop.

C/O takes home F O U R wins from AIGA 50 Books | 50 Covers competition

Today we are highlighting Robert Frank: Mary's book from @mfaboston

Using three distinct paper stocks, each section of Robert Frank: Mary’s Book is given its own tactile and visual identity. The front and back matter—along with annotations for the facsimile—are printed on a warm buff stock, echoing the paper Frank used in his original. The essays and generously sized plates appear on a matte uncoated paper, yielding rich, velvety black reproductions. The facsimile itself is printed on uncoated stock, with each image finished by a spot-gloss coating that recalls the surface sheen of gelatin silver prints.

From the AIGA jurors: "Mary’s Book was one of the best demonstrations of book design to capture the display of archival imagery. From full bleed spreads, larger oversized images to smaller thumbnails– Robert Frank’s photographs are compositionally placed with exceptional detail and care. Most striking was the annotated facsimile with the image silhouettes. The material quality of this additional scrapbook reproduction was both memorable and poetic.”

Major shoutout to @echelon_color for the perfectly pitched color throughout!

C/O takes home F O U R wins from AIGA 50 Books | 50 Covers competition

We continue to be embarrassingly thrilled! Hearts still popping. And so, so proud.

Edited by Alison Fisher and Craig Lee
Designed by: Content Object, Kimberly Varella with Gabrielle Pulgar
Hardcover, 296 pages
The Art Institute of Chicago, 2025
Printed and bound at Graphicom, Verona, Italy

As an extension of the major retrospective at the Art Institute of Chicago, Material Worlds reveals the vibrant imagination and working life of American architect Bruce Goff. After a formative mentorship with Frank Lloyd Wright, Goff broke from the minimal aesthetics of modernism and embraced a more expansive, lively approach to making.

A casebound hardcover with bronze foil detailing and hot pink printed edges draws on visual motifs from Goff’s work, including geometric designs and self-made typography that inspired the book’s type. Bookended by fluorescent pink, metallic-embossed endpapers, each featuring images of Goff in his studio from the beginning toward the end of his practice, illuminate the breadth and joy of his output.

The book echoes Goff’s boundless creativity through paper changes and interwoven sections. A two-column text grid is framed by running headers, folios, and vertical captions, evoking a “conversation pit” inviting an intimate dialogue between text and image. Goff’s eclectic inspirations—from stones and shells to rulers and records—are highlighted in an encyclopedic section titled Object Atlas, letting readers trace his artistic influences through everyday yet extraordinary objects.

Goff’s work extends beyond architecture to include abstract paintings, photographs, and a vast collection of ephemera, alongside architectural drawings, building fragments, and models. One of his most celebrated works, the Struckus House, is documented in a photo essay by Janna Ireland, printed on glossy, magazine-like paper with full-bleed images that immerse the reader in Goff’s material world.

Today we’re highlighting Brand X: Innovation in Screenprinting

Celebrating over 400 prints from the @philamuseumart permanent collection, Brand X Editions: Innovation in Screenprinting highlights 45 years of collaboration between founder Robert Blanton, his evolving team, and the artists who have shaped the studio’s iconic reputation.

Brand X’s intricate print editions pass through hundreds of layers of color, creating an ineffable depth in both work and approach. The design of this book emphasizes the practice behind their medium. The Z-fold dust jacket reveals the top third of the cover, like a squeegee pressing ink through a screen. One side features a series of image separations and testimonials which is screen printed with three colors on mirror foil lamination, the verso an offset reproduction of Rashid Johnson’s Untitled Large Mosaic, doubling as a poster.

The clothbound cover, a highly graphic screen print of B and X, embodies the bare bones of their practice. Thematic sections thread throughout the publication, separated by monochromatic collages of process photos printed on thin glossy sheets. The text grid forms an ‘X’ shape to echo the studio’s iconic mark. Each section reveals layers of history and evolution behind Brand X, bookended with endpapers which feature the team from 1979 to today. The book concludes with a glossary of terms.

Much like a make-ready sheet, this book exposes the ephemeral residue of printmaking, giving the reader insight into the unseen processes that brings the mastery of screenprinting to life.

We are proud to present the publication for our exhibition “Imagining an Archipelago: Art from Cuba, Guam, the Philippines, Puerto Rico, and Their Diasporas,” on view at the Colby Museum through June 6, 2027.

The interpretive framework of an archipelago—an expanse of water containing a chain of islands—emphasizes 40 artists’ different yet related strategies toward the critique, defiance and navigation of conditions brought on by continental empires.

Essays, poetry, artworks and artist discussions in English, Spanish, Filipino and CHamoru provide a platform for solidarity, healing and celebration at the intersections of cultural and political self-determination, indigeneity, migration, climate crisis and resilience.

The publication is edited by Linde Family Foundation Curator of Academic Engagement Jessamine Batario and features writing from Lian Ladia, Alexandra T. Méndez García, Adriana Zavala, and Linde Family Foundation Educator for College Audience Phoebe Zipper.

C/O—2025 Book Report and Launch: No Wrong Holes: Thirty Years of Nayland Blake (2025)

I’m head-over-heels to announce that No Wrong Holes: Thirty Years of Nayland Blake will be launched at ICA LA (@theicala) Wednesday, January 14, from 7—8:30 pm.

This book took nearly seven years to make (thanks, pandemic)—one could even say the collaboration began nearly thirty years ago, when I first met Nayland at the San Francisco Art Institute in 1996. It has been such a special project, one I hold very close to my heart. I would be absolutely thrilled to celebrate in person with you all, honoring Nayland Blake, Jamillah James, the book team, and ICA LA for this incredible (and honestly miraculous) feat.

And, yes, I'll be there—big hugs in advance.

A huge congratulations to Jeremy Frey on receiving the 2025 MacArthur Fellowship—so well deserved!

I had the honor of designing Jeremy Frey: Woven last year with Rizzoli Electa (Isabel Venero) and the Portland Museum of Art (Ramey Mize)—which, coincidentally, just took first place for Exhibition Catalogues with the New England Museum Association (NEMA). C/O—2025 Book Report: Rashid Johnson: A Poem For Deep Thinkers

Designed for the artist Rashid Johnson and his 2025 Guggenheim survey of the same name, this book functions as a hybrid museum catalogue and artist’s book. Alongside scholarly essays and plates, it includes several resting areas—“design interventions” where readers can engage with Johnson’s work in a more contemplative, pre-linguistic way. These sections shift paper and color palettes, crop images closely, experiment with collaging, and pair visuals with recurring literary references, including LeRoi Jones’s 1959 poem that inspired the exhibition’s title.

C/O—2025 Book Report: Robert Frank: Mary’s Book

Robert Frank: Mary’s Book is a book about a book—and dons a meticulously crafted facsimile of Frank’s intimate 1949 photobook made for his then-girlfriend, artist Mary Frank. Classic and restrained, the design is built on deliberate choices: a red foil stamp on the cover, inspired by the wax pencil marks used on contact sheets; carefully considered finishes for every material—paper, cloth, and varnish—each contributing to the book’s tactile precision and quiet elegance.
