Had the honor of interviewing and illustrating @previndustries aka @open_mike_eagle @video_dave and @stillrift for the new @ugsmag

I’m not really a visual artist or a writer, just someone who likes to give everything a try. This was my second time illustrating for the magazine and first time doing an interview. It’s available now.

I included an illustration that we didn’t use. Since there’s 3 of them in the group, I decided to do an homage to one of my favorite groups and put them in the Buhloone Mindstate setting.

Mike, Dave, and Rift are super talented and Previous Industries is a great collaboration. You might hear something from the 4 of us in the future. Me and Dave have done a full album, which Mike and Rift are on. Mike was also on the ShrapKnel album I produced. Mike has a new album out with @kennysegal called Doomed that is on @backwoodzstudioz and is excellent from start to finish, as expected. Highly recommended.

@shrapknel returns to the Amoeba Berkeley stage for a short set in support of their Triple Steel Beam collection on Wednesday, June 17 at 5pm!

Plus, a very special guest appearance by stellar sound provider @controllerseven, who produced their celebrated 2024 album Nobody Planning to Leave on @backwoodzstudioz!

The Triple Steel Beam Collection consists of three full-length albums written and performed entirely by ShrapKnel. Each album is produced by a singular producer including: @raaaaaaaphy, @likemaddladd & @ohbliv.

@curlycastro and @premrock brought along some incredible guests throughout the journey, featuring: J.U.S, Fatboi Sharif, Zilla Rocca, Phiik, Jesse the Tree, Mestizo, doseone, Jyroscope, Still Rift, AJ Suede & Bigg Jus.

The Triple Steel Beam Collection, which includes Armature by ShrapKnel & Ohbliv, Saisir Le Feu by ShrapKnel & Mike Ladd, and Lincoln Continental Breakfast by ShrapKnel & Raphy, will be available on vinyl in limited quantities via Fused Arrow Records.

Birthday trip to Brooklyn. I’m bad about taking (and especially being in) photos, but it was a great trip. Got to hang out with one of the coolest of cools, the talented @scottmatelic we walked, talked, ate, record shopped, and just hung out. A welcomed break from the daily work life routine.

I got to go to @williegreen1 studio to hear mixes of my new album. Really proud of this album and now I’m super excited after hearing how great he’s making it sound. Can’t wait for people to hear this.

Got to do some@more record shopping on Thursday with @scottmatelic and @emynd and then had a birthday dinner with @premrock @williegreen1 @steeltippeddove @scottmatelic and @emynd Delicious food and a great time hanging out with all of them. More hangouts with @premrock after, a top notch person.

The red eye there and the 12 hour journey back home were not highlights, but worth it.

Also got to see some of my favorite art at SFO. The @jagel mural and the Barry McGee are so good.

Crazy to see “Receipts” on this playlist. I had this idea/music kicking around a few years back. It was originally just a little intro to an ep I was spitballing with someone. I didn’t really think anyone would add to it, it was an interlude type thing.

When @curlycastro @premrock and I were working on Nobody Planning To Leave, Prem asked if I had anything he could use for a solo record. I sent him a demo of this track and the idea just simmered. We probably didn’t even come back to it for at least a year or more. It originally didn’t come back around to a second verse after the middle, but Prem knew there was something there and put in the call to get woods on the track. @premrock absolutely nails this song and a woods closer never fails. This is a special song.

I spent an unreasonable amount of time figuring out how to get from the middle back to the verse format. It’s probably not noteworthy to most, but I really obsessed on making that turnaround feel natural so that woods popped in just right.

After it was done, I knew it was a cool song. I was really excited about it, but wondered what people might think. It’s a somewhat unconventional format for a rap song, but Prem and woods made it something special. Shoutout to Prem for seeing the vision and also knowing to push it further.

Shortly before @premrock album “Did You Enjoy Your Time Here” was released, I was on a little record shopping trip with my friends (@emynd and @scottmatelic). Scott was in the car with me and I played “Receipts” off of my Google drive and he kept saying how good it was. It kinda surprised me. You’re always chasing something and this one feels like actually brushing up against that something. Honored to have played a part in this.

Shoutout to @premrock and woods. Did You Enjoy Your Time Here is available now through @backwoodzstudioz The entire album is great.

This is one of those things I can send to my kids and possibly look cool. by @controllerseven

FTC - Pyramids shirt now available.

I’ve lived in the Bay Area my whole life and I grew up skateboarding. @ftcsanfrancisco was a huge presence in my formative years, especially because of the videos (shoutout @aaronemeza ).

A little while back, my friend @ianmjohn invited me to contribute some art for an art show at FTC in SF. I made a collage, similar to some others I’d done that make unlikely friends out of musicians.

Honored that they decided to make it into a shirt, which is now available on the FTC web store.
