Very proud of my abundant tomato crop which lent their wonderful flavour to this Paradeisersuppe - Paradise Soup. When tomatoes 🍅 were first introduced in Austria from the Americas, they were called Paradeisapfel - paradise apple - as this exotic fruit was associated with the forbidden fruit in the Garden of Eden. Thanks to the glorious summer sunshine these paradise apples made a heavenly soup today! Many thanks to @gincognitos for the wonderful tomato plants. #tomatosoup #paradeiser by @cook_gemutlich

Now the summer heat has faded I felt the need for biscuits for some inner warmth. So a quickly made batch of Viennese Biscuits were the answer! Simply beat 175g room temperature butter in a stand mixture until soft, gently beat in 50g sieved icing sugar until just fluffy. Sieve over 175g plain flour with 30g cornflour and beat in with a few drops vanilla extract until the mixture is soft and smooth. Pop onto a large piping bag fitted with a large star nozzle and pipe 7cm strips onto lined baking trays. Bake in an oven preheated to 160C fan for 12 minutes. Then melt 70g chocolate in a bowl over simmering water, dunk each end of the cooled biscuits and leave to set ( if you can wait that long…) Enjoy ☺️ Makes about 45 dainty bites. #viennesebiscuits #sweettreats by @cook_gemutlich

Fun, family and fish! Yesterday’s lunch to introduce Sisi to her great great aunt and cousins included really good @jamieoliver Stuffed Salmon recipe (wonderfully fresh salmon from @fishgloriousfish ) followed by Topfentorte (cheesecake ) with raspberries. Hazelnut Cake and always perfect @rosefooks scones for tea. A little bit of baking, these are Husarenkrapferl - Hussar Buttons- intended to resemble the ornate buttons on the Hungarian soldiers’ decorative uniforms. Much more palatable than buttons I assure you! Simply made and good to eat. by @cook_gemutlich

A Dobos Torte for my Valentine and to wish you a Happy Valentines Day. The whisked sponge layers are filled with a rich chocolate butter cream with a caramel topping. Thank you to Jòzsef C Dobos, Hungarian chef and delicatessen owner who first created this scrumptious cake in 1884. Many thanks to the Drury Lane Theatrical Fund for asking me once again to create the cake for the annual Twelfth Night celebration in the sumptuous surroundings of the Grand Saloon at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. The Baddeley Cake tradition has been celebrated since 1795 following a bequest by the actor Robert Baddeley to provide a cake and a glass of punch (a secret recipe known only to the theatre manager) for the members of the cast currently running at the theatre - the lovely ‘Hercules’ company this year. Yet another Apple pud, this one called Äpfel à la Mannheim ( don’t know why it’s so called - can anyone enlighten me?). It’s apples gently poached in a cinnamon syrup covered with a topping of creamed butter and sugar, beaten in egg yolks with whipped egg whites and ground almonds folded through and baked until risen and golden.
