JUNE✨

You were a bit of a pain in the ass but there were also some nice moments in between

Had one of the busiest days at the café ever, lots of private cake orders for gorgeous birthdays, some amazing charity cook offs, quite a few sleepless nights mixed in with a heatwave 🤣 however, we made it and we are now entering July and nearly half way through 2026...mental!

Time is absolutely flying and who knew this would be the year I would really be enjoying new things like going to the gym ( Iol I know...) and really just enjoying having a bit of a routine each week...maybe this is coz I'm getting old 🙈

I am feeling a bit burnt out from June coz everything seems to happen all at once especially with the business but I am glad to have some very nice things to look forward to in the upcoming months too..💘

As always though, I still ate very very well (obvs) coz what's a Mama Z without delicious scran?!!!

I'm absolutely exhausted from the weekend and feeling a little burnt out I think. Running a biz is hard work, this is not the first time me talking about it lol but I did really make some gorgeous things last week.

Thought I'd share probably one of the prettiest things I've made in a while 💘

Said baddie ordered for her bday:
A lemon olive oil pistachio sponge, with mixed berry compote centre and a creamy pistachio white chocolate & cream cheese frosting ✨

Isn't she pretty? was dead proud of this 💜

Food blogger since '99.. actually probably since '91 📸

Story time ✨

I was saying to my friend Rach the other day whilst we spoke about America and her travels there that I would love to return (not rn) as the only time I have ever been to the US of A was in 1999 & I was a very smol 9 yr old Mama Z 💜

I saw the Lion King on this trip, saw a Gospel choir in a church in Harlem, saw snow for the first time af the top of The Empire state building..where I also lost my hat but some of my core memories is about some of the food we ate there.

I saw the new year in with thousands of people, stayed up way past my bed time to say hello to the year 2000 with my fam. My sister Sophia was only small & learnt to crawl on this trip! I was also given my first disposable film camera where I took so many shit photos but I love that this was through the lense of 9yr old me!

There was one meal I really remember where my dad got a massive steak & I took a pic of it, alongside my tiny lamb chops & broc for scale. This is pre Insta or social media, but lil old me felt the need to document this! It's like I always knew the camera ate first. I also think (as the kids say.. low-key) had fomo of his food 😆😫

Even every holiday I went to, I always wrote a holiday diary, frequently writing about the food I ate & even drew them too! I feel I was always was & still motivated by what I eat 😆

I've been trying to look for the photo of my dad's steak but here's a few pics from a holiday diary, seeing the millennium in & also my chops in '99.

In a world where everything is so instant and fast, it's so nice to have these memories on film to look back on and remember.

9 year old me wanted to be an archeologist for the longest time (I love mummies) so I wonder what she would think now..knowing she's cooking and eating food for a living and has probably, definitely..eaten bigger steaks than what her dad ate then 😆✨

Back in January I shot a piece about #BananaKetchup for @featrmedia with @erwan 🍌🇵🇭

The full episode is out on YouTube for you to watch but getting Erwan say butty was definitely one of the highlights of the year for me 😆 bringing that Northern part of me to The Philippines. Link for the episode is easily clickable via my bio!

It's an awesome episode that speaks of Maria Orosa, a pioneer in all things food production and an incredible lady who ultimately saved the Philippines from hunger. It was through her practices of preservation and food production that Banana ketchup was born and has inspired not only myself, but others to make their own too.

From the amazing food, pastries, the wineeeeee, the lovely people, history & gorgeous architecture...it really took me by surprise.
