My debut album, Small Talk, is finally out on all major streaming platforms. This has been so long in the works, it’s really surreal to share it with you all. Lots of thanks will be in order over the next few days, but for now, enjoy some images from Small Talk projects past, present, and future, and enjoy the tunes. And I hope to see some of you there on Saturday for the release party at the Blockhouse! by @copelandjamesmusic

recording week was a mixed bag! i got to see my dear friends, who also happen to be extraordinarily talented, and make some great music. but we had to cut the recording trip short and couldn’t record vocals because my throat has not returned to singing condition (or good talking condition—thus the whiteboard) since two back to back colds with laryngitis in the span of a month.

fingers crossed that this issue is short-lived—i’m seeing a doctor who specializes in vocalists a few days! i am very grateful to sam and ellie for helping me make music while also intermittently walking me through stress spirals, and to my partner who ferried alkaline water and various meds to/from the studio while we worked. having fleshed out at least most of the instrumentals, i can very confidently say that this album is going to be really, really good, even if i have to wait a little longer than i’d hoped to finish recording! despite a stressful time recently, my heart is so full, i love my friends so much, and i am really really excited about where this project is going!

p.s. this sick season is extra crazy, and might be the right time to consider bringing masking back into your life if you stopped! this is me facing the consequences of not doing that while teaching by @copelandjamesmusic

there’s ONE day left of my midwestern goodbye album kickstarter!! this campaign will close at 9am on sunday, 2/1. thank you so so so much to everyone who has pledged, shared, or helped to make this happen in any way. our last countdown song is moving song—a song that i started writing for the 2024 escapril prompt “change of state” and then finished writing with the help of @elliekashinn, @sam.swinnerton, and @rhelwegner <3

my album kickstarter hit its original goal, the CD stretch goal, and the session harpist stretch goal! if we capped it here, we would already have great album funding. now, all that’s left is a personal appeal.

every cent of this funding so far will go either to my collaborators for production, mixing, mastering, session recording, audio engineering, studio rental, or to CD production and shipping costs. beyond that, i’m also taking some time off of work to record this album in february, and since I am an independent contractor (teaching music lessons) without PTO, that time off is about a $700 loss. i certainly don’t expect that to all be covered (i never expected the kickstarter to make it this far!!!), but if anyone else wants to commission an original song, session musician work, a cover request, etc—any contributions in these last 24 hours will help me recoup from that time off :-)

thank you all SO much. i am so ready to stop asking for more funds tomorrow and get started on writing all your song commissions, making your sticker packs, and RECORDING THIS ALBUM <3 by @copelandjamesmusic
