For years I assumed that gap was about talent, or discipline, or some rare thing the rest of us don’t have. It’s not.

I’ve watched hundreds of writers up close now, and the ones who make it aren’t the most gifted in the room. They’re the ones who got clear on how to do it, early on.

So where does it break down? You have the book in you. Maybe even a draft. But the path from manuscript to bookshelf is a fog.

Traditional, hybrid, self-published. Everyone you ask gives a different answer based on the path they took. So the book stays a someday project. The doc stays open in another tab.

I don’t want that to be your story.

I got my first book deal at 29, and plenty of more talented writers never get one. What made the difference for me was a decade spent learning how publishing actually works, and that’s the head start I want to hand you.

The @copper.books BOOK FAIR was one for the books!!! 📚 🎉 Grateful doesn’t begin to describe how it felt being in that room. The energy, the momentum, the camaraderie, the true sense of community and support.

A few people said, “That’s the most interesting room I’ve ever been in!” and I couldn’t agree more. Every single person at every single table could have spoken on that stage and shared their wisdom! It was a years worth of encouragement and inspiration in a single day—with a lot of practical guidance too.
