Le Retour des Indes, 2025
Site-specific drawing
Charcoal on the wall
550x700 cm
Instituto Cervantes Paris

The site-specific drawing created for the Instituto Cervantes stems from a critical reflection on the construction of exoticism in Western art. It takes inspiration from the journey of the tapestries of La Tenture des Indes. Sketched in the 17th century by Dutch artists Frans Post and Albert Eckhout during an expedition to northern Brazil, the drawings and cartons went through a long process of reinterpretation before arriving at the Louvre.
Idealized for the European gaze, this transformed representation of a colonized territory later served as a model for the sedentary Henri Rousseau to paint his imaginary jungles.

Francesc Ruiz Abad extends and plays with this chain of distortions, as if embracing and savoring the fantasy until it becomes his own. The façade becomes a fragment of the Mata Atlântica without human figures, where tropical fauna and flora—long relegated to a mere ornamental backdrop—now claim their autonomy.

What was once colonial documentation is transformed into a counter-archive: animals and plants, themselves both witnesses and victims of conquest, now occupy the very heart of the installation.

Guardianes is a temporary site-specific drawing intervention in dialogue with the ornamental figures of Parisian XIX century architecture.
The house is called “Italian Pavilion” and was build back in 1800s by the french Radet family. Is also the place where I lived and worked for 12 months in harmony with birds, ants and nettle in the context of @citedesartsparis residency in Montmartre.

Now is time to face new horizons and say goodbye to these sleepy lions and the paradisiac and super special garden from la butte de Montmartre

As September approaches and an intense, activity-filled summer draws to a close, at Tramuntana we want to thank all the collectors, friends and visitors who have joined us and who support our project.

To bid farewell to summer, we present at TRAMUNTANA, Francesc Ruiz Abad presents «Mediterrani Atlàntic», a project born of the passage between two geographies: the Brazil of São Paulo and the Mata Atlântica, and the Catalan Mediterranean. The journey becomes a way of observing, gathering and transforming the territory. Painting, charcoal and matter build a hybrid landscape, between memory, nature and imagination.

At AMUNT, Ivan Forcadell presents «L'última melona de l'estiu», a selection of paintings, drawings and ceramics tied to the rural landscape of southern Catalonia. His work begins from observation and detail to build a language of his own, where forms, colours and gestures appear as small variations that transform perception. An intimate look at the moment when summer slowly begins to fade. taken in Vulpellac by @copytolearn

Mata is a book published on the occasion of the exhibition of the same name (18.06–10.07.2026), developed during Paulo Reis’s residency at Projeto Fidalga.

It plays with the reproduction of a notebook whose ink drawings seep through to the other side of the page, giving rise to new, veiled images.

It forms part of a wonderful series of publications that Projeto Fidalga has been producing over the last 15 years with all the artists that participated on the residency; always in the same format and giving the artist total freedom.

Date of publishing: June, 2026
Publisher: Projeto Fidalga, São Paulo
Designer: Felipe Souto
Binding: Softcover
Pages: 20
Size: 14x10 cm
Edition: 50

One of our goals with the residency project is for each experience to unfold into new opportunities, expanding the artists’ professional networks.
This time, artist Francesc Ruiz Abad—who was with us in June—was invited by curator Nilo de Almeida to participate in the 25 Paranapiacaba Winter Festival. Nilo discovered Francesc’s work during a visit to Fidalga and extended the invitation, which was promptly accepted.
After the residency, Francesc traveled to Cananéia, where he created new works. One of them is now on display at the Paranapiacaba Winter Festival—and that is just one of the good things to come! Mata, 2026
Site-specific installation
Charcoal, dry pastel and ceramics
São Paulo

.

Mata is an immersive installation of charcoal drawing and ceramics exploring representations of the Atlantic Forest landscape. The project draws on a series of drawings made between January and March 2025 in the public parks of São Paulo and in the Atlantic Forest of Bragança Paulista, and was developed during a residency at Projeto Fidalga, where the artist deepened his research into the European artists who portrayed an idealized nature in Brazil and into the construction of the exotic in the West.

The large-scale drawing unfolds as a graphic fantasy in which natural elements dissolve into gestural abstractions, subverting the concepts of cyclorama and panorama. The installation is completed by a series of local clay tiles exploring fauna —anthropomorphic birds, smoking or wearing hats— in dialogue with the tile-making tradition of the Iberian Peninsula and its symbolic charge tied to the bestiary.

Mata is presented alongside Pontos Cegos – Geografias para Habitar o Mundo, by Thereza Salazar. Both exhibitions remain open to the public, free of charge, until July 10th at Projeto Fidalga, São Paulo.
