All mixed together with dill and mint on top cause what grows together goes together and cause @cheetieku is a boss with dill and I’m always inspired. And did you ever notice that dill smells of vanilla?
Chicken marinated in shio koji and broiled.
Rice with a little toasted sesame oil.
I would not serve this to just anyone. Delightfully bitter and sweet and aromatic.

Peggy and I are on the road today from @shepherdcenter in Atlanta to Raleigh. Jack follows us Friday. While we are so thrilled to be coming home, we’re going to miss our Shepherd family whose support has meant everything - y’all know who you are.

An update on Jack for friends and family.
For those that may not know, my partner, Jack, had two strokes in his brainstem (pretty uncommon) this fall. He’s a Leo, after all, and needed to be special, but I don’t recommend being interesting to neurologists. We’ve been on a long journey of acute hospital care and rehab hospital care since late October.
For the past 4 months we’ve been in Atlanta at the Shepherd Center, a specialized hospital for acquired brain injury, spinal cord injury and MS care. We cannot understate how incredibly lucky and thankful we feel to have landed here. The therapy, nursing, and medical care has been the best and the community we’ve built here with other patients and families has made the journey easier and more manageable.
Jack is currently an incomplete quadriplegic and uses a power wheelchair for mobility. He is responding well to therapy and has limited, but increasing, use of his legs, arms, and hands.
Recovery from any brain injury can be slow and non-linear and recovery from injury to the brainstem (and, in his case some spinal cord involvement) is even slower.
Cognitively, he’s unimpaired and is his delightful, sarcastic and too smart for his own good self. His ability to swallow was dramatically impaired after his second stroke but hours and hours and hours of speech therapy has him eating again albeit slowly. Ask him about it, it’s a good story. Mad props to speech therapists everywhere.
We’re headed home to Raleigh June 5 where recovery will continue as an out patient. We’re moving to an ADA apartment in North Hills (ask me about that… I have lots of opinions about what passes for ADA compliance - it’s pretty sad). We look forward to rolling around and exploring our new neighborhood and we’ll be out and about once we get a van.
