Woodworking became a hobby I taught myself during the Writers and SAG strike. I found that it not only kept my mind busy, but it gave me so much creative satisfaction seeing a project I built with my own two hands, designed, and improvised in my head, to solve a need I had, come to life. It was a creative output I was completely in charge of from start to finish and could “see” the completion of. We often don’t have the satisfaction of control or of seeing a project to completion as storytellers in this industry. I found woodworking filled that gap for me. I’ve stuck with woodworking, and got pretty good at it. My most recent project is this coffee/drink/breakfast bar in my living room that I built from scratch and completely customized to fit our needs. Im pretty proud of it and its really pretty to look at 🤩. It was such an honor to be present at the 53rd @naacpimageawards last night representing @runtheworldstarz nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series! We were in excellent company and can’t wait to turn out more 🔥 Season 2, starting to film in a week! An epic bookend to our new beginning ♥️ Also my team slayed, snatched, and laid me out yesterday with this look I felt amazing, and I love them for it. If you’ve been following along only my other instagram account @storieddesign_withcorbinreid you would have seen me building this room completely DIY from scratch! From the custom woodwork of the bookshelves, to the marble hearth install on the fireplace and marble backsplash on the. Bookshelves, to the DIY custom coffee bar closet, and the custom built breakfast nook with storage and DIY upholstery! This room was truly a labor of love that I completed with my own two hands! I could not have done this without the help of @loweshomeimprovement so as always thank you to them for partnering with me. This room has been a creative haven and it feels like a hug. All of the woodworking, sewing, marble fabricating, tiling and interior design skills I’ve taught myself I got to use in this room! I heard recently that in Chinese Zodiac 2025 was the Year of the Wood Snake: “representing wisdom, transformation, and growth, following the Dragon year. People born in this year are considered insightful, adaptable, and focused on personal development, embodying the Snake’s mysterious nature with Wood’s creative energy for positive change and new opportunities.” I could not identify with that more. Shedding old skin. Finding new wisdom and new ways. I’m claiming it: 2026 “The Year of the Fire Horse” is going to be 🔥. Happy New Year 🎉 by @corbinmreid
